Lightning strikes was far from a one time event. They made that perfectly clear when they did it 4 TIMES.
And much like the Lurtnin event, people where given plenty of oppertunity and warnings before the cutoff.
Just this

As someone that started midway...
No thanks. Legacy players can have their status symbols.
I'm sure this thread spawned from the Moonlet Earring appearing on the cash shop. Thing that makes the Moonlet Earring different from the Minstrel Goobbue is it's means of obtainment. The Moonlet Earring was an event reward, to celebrate(?) the start of the Dalamud storyline. The Minstrel Goobbue was a genuine side-quest, whose rewards weren't in celebration of anything, it was just a side-quest. As such, it wasn't tied to any event, even though it did receive advertising unheard of for any side-quests before nor since that didn't involve Hildibrand. So far Square hasn't made a single non-event side-quest reward available on the cash shop, not even the Hildibrand or Trail of the Twelve rewards. I personally think the the Sylph Goobbue is a perfectly good substitute. As for the 'older one is taller, it's not. Not anymore, anyway, as the Sylph Goobbue is literally just a reskin.
The Legacy goobooboo.. Gubu. Gababuuu. Whever it is called. Is the Only thing from 1.0 I have... aside from a kimono like dress I got during an event. I think it is unique to 1.0? I feel special having it anyways.
But overall I say if people want to pay Real money for it. Let them.
But I do also like and support the idea of keeping things the way they are.
I see merit in both ideas and as a gABuuBoo owner I support either direction square takes.
As a Legacy player, the only thing that needs to remain exclusive is the Tattoo and the Tattoo'd Chocobo.
Everything else, can be put back into the game AS LONG AS THE ORIGINAL CONDITIONS TO OBTAIN THEM COME WITH IT
I am a legacy player. And while I'm not particularly attached to my legacy-specific mounts. However, I would not want them to go do this.
The reason is, this was one of the first, full on promises Yoshida gave us, and he's held fast to it. I'd rather not encourage a concept of promises with expatriation dates on them.
Looking at this thread, i have to say that Legacy players are some of the most entitled players I've seen in any game. Yes, you've stuck around in failing game are are already being rewarded for it. But must they bash people for requesting 1.0 items?
They only pay less than $10/month for subscribing to 1.0 for at least 90 days and they talk about "privileges"

Not all of us only subbed for 90 days. I subbed as soon as they came active and was subbed until the final month that we could. Some of us stuck around and supported the game even when it was failing. Yes it got better. No it was not up to par by the end. Funny thing is, you find people helping out randoms a lot more on legacy servers (from what I've seen between playing on both) and are more willing to help. It's generally the non legacy population that has a problem with it. In the beta forums there were large posts about how people weren't going to let legacy players in their parties etc. I was glad to see that this didn't transfer over in game however it seems it's alive and well on the fourms.
This. I was honestly pretty disgusted with some of the responses to the OP in that moonlet earring thread a while back, not to mention the double standard around here where it's not okay to ask that all 2.x exclusives remain exclusive yet it's perfectly okay to bash others for requesting 1.x items, as if legacies are the only ones in this game who deserve exclucivity. Personally, I'd rather not see any of it brought back in any way, including the things I missed out on as well as the things I have, and would like to see plenty of new one time events for the new players because I feel that if a select group of players deserve to be exclusive, then we all do.
I also think that it's perfectly fine to have missed out on something and never have it come back around again (I was prepared to do that myself with the lightning event, since I only caught the anniversary run of it last aug/sept-ish, and at the time I started playing, I was okay with having missed them as long as I'd eventually have a shot at something else), and that it's a bit unrealistic (and unfair to others) to just assume that you should be given all the things, but that it's also unfair to just tear into someone for simply asking if one item or event can be brought back. They still have the right to ask.
Admittedly though, this thread has been a bit tamer than ones I've seen in the past from what I've read of it, it's at least nice to see some non-toxic replies coming from 1.0 players whether they agree or disagree that it should be brought back, and I gotta agree with those who feel that 2.0 already has a goobue mount, no reason to bring the other one back at all.
