The Ps3 hardware is already stressed even with the 2.0 revamp and new engine, so adding 3d capabilites isn't goign to work out well. They are still vamping issues with the PS3 displaying more models on screen at once, so expect the ps3 to have a reduced distance that players and mobs apear. Even with Luminous running it.
Stick with a PC and Nvidia vision to play it in 3D, which acually can be a pain in this game.
No, and it's not going to die either, thanks to James Cameron.
This is where all credibility goes flying out of the window. Firstly, LG isn't that bad a brand, and secondly even a year before when the post I'm quoting was written I could've bought a brand new Sony Bravia 46" 1080p LCD (HDTV) for only $650, not even at a discount(/used/etc.) price, but the standard price. Around the time the quoted post was posted, I was also looking into getting a brand new Panasonic Viera 40" 1080p LCD-3D (HDTV) which would've cost me about $800.
2011 was only 3 months away from ending by the time you wrote this.Currently the standard is now HDtv. 56% of american households have a HDtv in them, and it's projected that only 2% of americans will have 3D HDtv by the end of 2011.
Disposable income is one thing, lying about how much something costs is another thing entirely. It's great if you have disposable income and can buy neat gadgets. As a younger gamer I did just that, I bought a huge TV (multiple!)I bought surround sound systems, I bought consoles, PCs blah blah blah. On a whim I'd go out and buy a couple hundred bucks worth of games. Now, my perception has changed. I have a mortgage, A wife and a family. I'm not going to plop down another $1,500-2,600 for a 3d-tv and another $220 for the glasses. How many of you will be in a similar situation in the future?
Avatar and Resident Evil: Afterlife would both like a word with you if you really think 3D is just a gimmick. The TV market is trying to go the route of cell phones and have people "upgrade"every 2 years. 3-D is todays drive for sales. then it's going to be 3-D w/o the glasses, then after that it's going to Ultra HD sets.
A lot of people just bought a large HD tv in the last few years. 3D is a gimick, I just don't see that 56% of american s who own a HDTV to go right back out and buy a new 3D set so soon.
Edit: actually, for that matter, every technological invention has started out as a gimmick. Nothing stops being a gimmick until people adapt to it. U3DTV is like anything else, and it soon will become the standard, and probably even faster than HDTV ever did.

... I for one wouldn't waste my hard earned cash on 3D TVs. Internet TVs on the other hand.. much better.I just got the new ico/shadow of the colossus for ps3 and was playing it on my 65 inch 3d plasma and wow.... i mean.. it looks real. And this is a game from like years ago in the ps2 era...
FFXIV graphics are -amazing- and beautiful. They are probably the one thing the game actually excels at. And most new PS3 games that are good are released with real-3d support.
If FFXIV is released on the PS3 with real-3d capabilities the game would probably grab a lot of attention just for its amazing graphics. And playing a game that looks realistic in 3d just makes it a much better experience.
From what I hear its not overly difficult to implement and wouldn't take like a year or anything. And it would really set the game apart from other MMOs.
So at little cost, and little time investment, it would be a great addition to the game. Especially if they release the game in the next 6-8 months since -many- people will be getting 3d tv's at christmas.
no, the game really doesn't. If it takes any amount of developer time than it's a waste.
