    Upcoming Craft Changes

After looking through the upcoming changes, I've come to realize that SE really has no clue what the hell they are doing, wasting time making changes to the game like this makes the game have little to no challenge. What I had liked about this game in the beginning was the fact there was alot of diversity to it, now not so much. You used to need sub crafts to make certain items which was a brilliant idea, forcing you to level up other crafts, in order to achieve your goals, now any Joe Schmoe will be able to make anything in the game, so I am very disappointed about that fact. With the massive item changes to recipes, this is even more disappointing to see, spending countless hours gathering things to make the best items in the game, for naught. Simplifying the recipes and removing items is not the way the game should of turned. All that time we wasted over the last year is like a Kick in the Face.

The old saying goes, if its not broken don't fix it, but that doesn't apply here, because the things that are broken are the things that SE developers ignore. I will still play the game after these changes, but at some point in time, with no diversity or challenges, I will most likely end up looking for another game.

I think, this is just my opinion, by clearing out my inventory, and minimizing the time spent crafting, they've outweighed any benefit a hard crafting system had. Especially since our crafting system is going to get deeper with the addition of materia. At this point crafting was especially taxing on inventory space, and the amount of items it took compared to the amount of shards it took was ridiculous for some recipes. Honestly crafting in this game is meant to be accessible to more people, its not supposed to be money in hands of few.

While I applaud them reducing the amount of materials it takes to make an item, I am not in favor of how they changed the base materials. I mean 3 logs for 3 pieces of lumber??? Were they high when they came up with that idea?

::Edit:: After further reviewing the new recipes and the lower materials to output ratios of the base materials like leather and lumber, I think the crafting system is going to be far worse than it was before. I think leatherworking which was already hard to begin with is going to be impossible now. The prices of hides are going to skyrocket and with them nerfing resell values of items there is going to be less gil for the less advanced crafters. Right now the only way I make any money is to vendor my crafted items. And technically I am not really making money because I have to buy so many shards. I think this might have a worse effect on the game economy than Bush and Obama have had on the US economy.

Consider me of a polar opposite to this comment. IMO, an MMO should NEVER force anyone to play a certain way. The beauty of where FFXIV is headed is that it gives the player as much freedom as possible to play their way and not feel like they're being funneled into a certain play style. If I want to only level leatherworking, who has the right to tell me that I can't?

I hate to break it to you, but the old saying is wrong. Innovation and advancement never occur when this attitude is present. Is FFXIV better off after these changes? I don't know for sure, but they certainly wouldn't get better by refusing to change things simply because "it works".

I could say so much more, but this isn't the proper place for it.

I think people should stop doomsaying until we are actually able to see how these changes affect the game.

No, they have lower yeilds now because finished items overall require a lot less. Take the armorer recipe for Steel Cuirass for example. it will need 2 steel plates, 1 iron rings, and 1 brass ingot That is a total 12 iron ore, 3 bomb ash, 2 copper ore, and one tin ore. Then look at the recipe for Iron Cuirass. it takes:

    2 iron squares (2 iron nuggets - 4 iron ore(12 nuggets))
1 brass rivet (2 brass nuggets - 3 copper ore, 1 zinc ore(12 brass nuggets))
    1 sheep leather strap ( 1 sheep leather - 1 sheepskin(4 sheep leather))
    1 bronze rings (3 bronze wire - 2 bronze ingots - 12 bronze nuggets - 3 copper ore, 1 tin ore(12 bronze nuggets))
    1 bronze chain (6 bronze rings - 12 bronze rings - 12 bronze wire - 2 bronze ingots - 12...........

I refuse to complete that list lol. Overall, the old iron cuirass takes a billion different crafts and too many different materials to make. the new iron cuirass will probably be 2 iron plates, 1 iron(or bronze/brass) rivet, and 1 brass (or bronze/brass) ingot. A lot less crafts to make it, and I am totally lovin it.

also because parts and the waste-of-time materials are going away, we will all use A LOT less shards and crystals in order to obtain finished gear. Grinding on finished gear will also be much better, and probably the way to go now.

Exactly! People seem to be overlooking this completely.

My bad, 2 plates instead of 2 ingots on those .

It still stands new recipies are much better than old recipes, even if material recipes yield less now.

One of my main points on this is the fact that someone that spends most of their time raising their crafts up to make the best gear you can for your character and Linkshell, is wasted time now, or will be after the update, basically crafting system after the patch will allow anyone without all the skills to make the same pieces as someone that did actually spend time leveling up the subs to make stuff. Prices are about to get retarded on items, alot of the mobs now will be over camped and some stuff will be just stupid hard to get because of the reducing of materials, so yes they give you more space in your retainer and inventory, but now your gonna have to fight other players for the reduced items your gonna need to make stuff.

Some of these changes make me hate myself for taking a 9 month break from the game in stead of using that time to get my crafts up..
