How to get new cards?

Sorry if this is an easy question guys but I just started TT not long ago, and I loved this in FF8 but now its not giving me much enthusiasm to collect.

How do you get new cards? I have some basic cards and I have been battling npc players, normal players for ages, I spent literally 13 hours the other day just playing it, trying to win new cards, but all I get is moogle and chocobo :/

I am taking part in the tournament but I dont have a strong enough deck to beat enough opponents to win, one experienced player was impressed that I beat him once and kept drawing matches with him with my low cards. I really had to plan out tactics to do that.

Can you only win cards by random drops from battles and purchasing cards at gold saucer? As I dont get any strong cards from drops

Wait please tell me more about how to get started with this. How do you get to the golden saucer? and how do I play the card game? I LOVED it in ff8!!! D=

Unlock Gold Saucer in Uldah, some guy will have a quest "It could happen to you" or so.
Starting TT is in the Gold Saucer... the "quest" there is a little tour of Gold Saucer also leading you to the Triple Triad section. In this section talk to the Triad Master he will explain some basics and give you your first cards.
NPCs to challenge will have a certain sign until you firsttime beat them then you need to remember them if you want to rechallenge for some reasons.

Cards are obtained on different ways:

1. Trials and Dungeons can drop them upon completition

2. Every NPC has 2-3 cards he randomly "drops" if you beat him some of them need hours "farming"


3. You can buy cards at the guy next to the Triad Master "Triad Trader" you can get some cards directly and the bronze, silver and gold sets give you 1 out of a collection upon use... pure rng (I always get Ultima from gold)

4. Every second week there is a Tournament if you greach certain amount of points you get besides MGP Platinum Packs (amount depends on performance) and they work like gold silver and bronze just have higher chance you get something rarer. Also Tournament winner gets a certain card.

So what's the preferred method of farming MGP with TT since Heavensward released? Last time I played it was farming "Indolent Imperial" non-stop. Was curious if this changed.

All but 2 of the NPC's released with HW are on timer's so you can't just sit there and farm them so indolent imperial is the best one to just sit down and farm. If you're looking for a part time NPC to farm in HW, Marielle is the best one to due to the Order rule and her playing the same 5 cards in the same order everytime, she does require some of the new cards to farm effectively though.

How do you get new cards?

By doing dungeons, battling NPCs (you can tell the strength of the NPC and it's reward by going to the site mentioned already), by buying them, and by achievements. Figure out which NPCs are weaker and battle them until you get their card(s). You could buy the packs but the drop rates in the packs mean you'll get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more duplicates than the card you way want. XD
