Flying - Am I doing it wrong?

So, by the time I gather all the currents to unlock flying, I'm pretty much done in the zone. It seems silly to have to clear a zone before unlocking flying, because I'm moving on to the next zone where I once again can't fly....
Is that how it's supposed to be, or am I doing something wrong?

You can optimize your time in the zone by bee lining to the currents and current quests, that will give you more fly time, but in short yeah you have it right. You're supposed to spend a while on foot for exploration and then spend the last remaining bit flying around laughing at the ants below.

You're never finished in a zone. Not unless you uninstall the game when you ding 60.

1. Enter zone, explore & pick up the aether currents.
2. Find which quests give aether currents and do them, along with the main story.
3. Do your side quests after you can fly. Then you aren't done with the zone. And it's 100x less annoying.

Flight is mostly useful for Hunts. Its also bloody useful for Gatherers i would imagine.
So while it may seem pointless to you now to unlock flight and then leave, keep in mind that you WILL often get a random SideQuest in Ishgard that unlocks a half dozen more SideQuests in other zones. Flight comes in rather handy for making those SideQuests easier.

And later patches will probably make you return to those maps anyways...
