This is a story-driven game, and that's the Final Fantasies in a nutshell. You cannot access Ishgard before you reach the conclusion of the 2.x storyline, because it would not make sense plot-wise for you to be able to enter the isolated country before they open their gates.

Think of the positives; you're at least getting experience now and saving yourself from a lot of future grinding, whereas I (and many others) did the 2.x story without getting any experience at all, which in turn resulted in a big grind of exp to reach that level 60 in the expansion.

Just ask for the FC or friends help you with trials. Hard Modes take 2-3min with a decent group.

I kinda give up on the idea of the story being important when you can make a Au-Ra right off the bat and thereby make alot of cutscenes with Yugiri hiding what she looks like incredibly awkward.

It's just a way to extend subs. Which is kinda odd because players are giving up soon after 2.0 and being stuck in the 2.1 > 2.55 limbo where character progression is none existent. My bro and 2 friends have gone to play Tera because they got bored of doing boring content for over 2 weeks, don't blame them tbh.

Story is just a convenient excuse and is in no way a sustainable one in the life of an MMO. Next it will be "No you need to do 4 years worth of content to hit endgame!", "Now it's 6!" etc...

It's extremely alienating for new players and the fact people cannot grasp this just boggle's my mind.

So they had a couple weeks in which their only character progression is updating their gear (and leveling if they have HW unlocked), along with advancing the storyline and unlocking dungeons/trials/raids. If that has them quitting because it's too boring, then does it really sound like they'd like endgame any better?
