The scholar relic is good even at lvl 59 since scholar weapons from new dungeons are useless if you meld the relic with crit.

Only get the Relic for the achievement or if you want it and don't complete the quest unless you want to waste time or just need more to do. YOu can easily just get the Poetic Weapon and that will tide you over until you get Dungeon drop weapons and then your Law weapon then going into your Bismark or Ravana Weapon...completing the whole relic quest would still take you a really long time even with the changes they have made and you would also spend a ton of money on it potential if you get the best stats.

Relic is an easy grind now but its not very relevant anymore. Do it if you have some time to kill...or if you really want it as glamour

They nerfed the hell out of secondary stats, crit included. 50 crit reportedly boosts your crit rate by an astounding... 1.165%
Meanwhile, the level 59 codex has 14 more Mind than the Last Resort Zeta. That's not useless.

At any rate, once you hit 60 you can just toss your old book out, and hitting 60 is faster and cheaper than getting a Relic together.

Wait, does the relic weapon look different or glow more after the initial state? I got the finished one and use 3 of some item I forgot to make it glow for glamour. Does it glow more afterwards?

the stage immediately after that, atma does not glow at all but is a different color. the stages after continue to add more glows till zodiac when it changes appearance entirely, then the zeta glows and is dyeable.

I started working on a relic for an alt class recently, since it seemed like leveling an alt would be much slower without all the quests. I got a level and a half so far JUST doing the fates and dungeons and whatever I needed for the relic. I feel like it may be more worth for an alt since the levels will go slower and you won't be replacing it quite so quickly.

The relic has varying degrees of glowiness depending on the stage. The only stage where it doesn't glow at all is the Atma stage because, lore wise, it's no longer the original relic but the starting point of the Zodiac quest (which involves shoving all kinds of aether into your relic and spiritbonding it so you can convert it into a super materia). The Nexus stage has the most glowiness and still retains the original form. The forged Zodiac weapon starts off dull (like the relic), but gets a unique effect once it hits the Zeta stage.

So far in the chain we have
Original Relic -> Zenith (max power reached for normal Relic)
Atma -> Animus -> Novus -> Nexus (max power reached for advanced Relic)
Zodiac -> Zeta (max power reached for Zodiac)
