I was always confused by canvas clothing. I mean, the notebook I use to write down recipes is canvas, I wouldn't particularly like to wear it...

Fingers crossed that the grade 6 cloth is silk!

I'm a weaver to make clothes and i enjoy that. I dont play weaver just to hit 50 and then make money.
I just like... to make my own clothes....
I care less how how many mats it'll require, cause that give me more reason to go out and farm them and level my botanist.
Wish people be more optimistic...

Didn't see that one coming XD
I was gonna log on today and spend some time levelling up carpentry and alchemy...
Think I'll just... err... wait a bit longer for that![]()
Regarding ranking up, a lot depends on the number of items dropped per extraction. SE could well change this number, and I actually full well expect them to.
A cap of one mythril ore per extraction (as it is now) completely nullifies the point of (a) Mind stat, which affects the number of items extracted (b) abilities such as King's Yield, which increases the number of items gathered. By decreasing amount of ingredients produced from materials, this number can be increased.
Regarding the thread synths, I guess you don't remember how at release the cloth synth made one cloth for 3 yarn, 4 or 5 cotton yarns. With the reduction in the number of cloth required for finished items, it was pretty clear that a reduction in the synthesis yield was coming back.
I think the system can work out, as long as SE adjusts the gatherer drop rates appropriately.
New level up process will consist of more ingredients made, and fewer finished items. This reduces the number of finished items entering the market to something that could potentially be absorbed via conversion to materia. There are new ingredient synths that will be appropriate rank. This was promised as a part of the revamp, that ingredient synths would be similar in rank to the finished item synth rank.
No need to panic just yet.
Regarding logs :
Current system, 1 log yields 4 synths worth SP. The lumber synths are all unreasonably low rank (highest being a rank 30 synth).
New system, 1 log yields 2 synths worth SP. Both the lumber synth and the finish item synth will yield SP. This is a factor of two reduction of mats to synths.
Regarding cloth:
Old system, 2 sheepskin yields 6 fleece (via TNR), yielding 24 wool yarn. 24 wool yarn nets 24 wool cloth via 8 synths. If done right, storing up wool yarn, this can net 10 weaving synths.
New system, 4 fleece yields 2 wool yarn, which yields 1 wool cloth. Nets 3 synths per 4 materials. As a result, fleece drops off karakul should be increased.
Just a couple of examples as I see them.

Don't forget that leves will now be a much better source of SP for crafting now that you can focus on them and somewhat force that the "good" leves for your rank show up a lot more frequently because of how often the leve list will reset. There will always be an "out" for ranks even if you end up running out of mats to make finished products.
Also, with the ability to earn seals through repeatable methods, seals can be used to buy engineering manuals, reducing the time to rank by 1/3.Don't forget that leves will now be a much better source of SP for crafting now that you can focus on them and somewhat force that the "good" leves for your rank show up a lot more frequently because of how often the leve list will reset. I believe there was some mention that the GC leves would have a separate pool of 99, so doing both GC leves and AG leves, both crafter leves, would net SP plus GC seals used when ranking crafting making items.
Less of a focus on the highly repetitive and monotonous task of "grinding" useless synths is a good step, I think.
