To be frank, it always sucks being a new player when you join an MMO that's well established with many updates. You always have to catch up to everyone else. That's just something players have to deal with.

Oh no! The game is making me play the game! This is unacceptable! D:
I don't like how people are acting in this thread. The "I had to do it why don't you?" or "Oh noes you got to play the game". Most smart companies when content scales ahead, they would not have players go back to do old content to unlock features for new ones.
Well, whatever.
Do you feel clever for stating this? Does big boy want a cookie?I don't like how people are acting in this thread. The "I had to do it why don't you?" or "Oh noes you got to play the game". Yeah, a lot of other companies probably would've. But the situation is what it is, and it says a lot (and none of it good) when someone rolls their eyes so hard that they're liable to pop right out of their skull when they're expected to pace themselves even moderately.
It honestly surprises me that the FFXIV wants its community to die because this is heavily offputting to new players who probably won't stick around to do the 2 to 3 weeks worth of old content grind just to play with their friends in the new relevant content.
Here is the difference between a good MMO and a bad one: The bad one makes you play it because it uses casino tactics and group mentality to force you to do so. A good MMO makes you play it because the game itself is interesting and enjoyable to play around in. That's why I'm always going on about witcher 3 and other single player titles: They succeed in being invocative titles without relying on by the nose gear grinding, group scheduling, and forced daily routines.
Really, the way we got here is kind of funny as well. The problem the developers ran into with this style of game is that once people have played content for a certain number of times or outleveled it, they'd never go back to do it again except under rare situations. So to solve this, instead of making the dungeons flexible in scale, they added a way to get end game currency to them. However, they also made the end game gear required to access all the content, so instead of doing the dungeons for personal enjoyment, people end up doing them because
A) The daily roulette system encourages them to dive in every day for the currency
B) The currency is required to get the gear needed to do the final stage of patch content so they can do the end game stuff.
C) The guild they likely are in may or may not demand that they have the gear or even excessive gear for the end game content in question.
Hence, we ultimately end up with an unintentional mental mouse trap that encourages people to grind everyday and reinforces the community behavior talked about in C.

PS; It's not a constructive comment? I know, but just felt like letting it here after readin OP, reather, I HAD TO let it out here before starting a long-rant about how I feel that all my progress in game is now a thing people does in weeks.

Well, the only reason people even feel like they need i200 gear is due to the silly mousetrap experience MMOs have been delivering for years where we need to "prepare" to engage in the next set of content by meeting iLvL requirements. I mean, do we really need this kind of thing? The game lets us craft, gather, and play multiple different classes on the same character. Why do we need to focus on constantly keeping ONE job up to date with currency locked gear at all times just to be able to access all of the new content each time they release it?"Hi. I'm new and I want to be full i200 the next week."

Oh no! So much content to play!
I just wanted to get the strongest gear and then complain there's nothing to do!
All the existing players had to spend however many year(s) getting to where they are, so why should new players get some kind of express pass to the end? We had it WAY harder, when the HM dungeons were actually hard and challenging. Now you can pretty much be watching TV while doing them.
