You forget about Iocaine powder!
Actually, Im not sure about that.Exactly -and as the resulting questline in Heavensward that resolved the whole situation mentioned, everything happened so fast we didn't even get the chance to even confirm she really was dead - given the fact we had barely risen from our seat when Teledji and the Brass Blades burst into the room and promptly arrested us before we could check Nanamo for any sign of life (this was also why Ilberd bared Raubahn from seeing Nanamo's body - that would have blown the whole scam). The substance used on Nanamo merely needed to put her into a deep long-term slumber that could be mistaken for death on a cursory examination - the ALC Guild was clearly invloved so it would have been relatively easy for them to come up with such a potion.
And remember, the staged assassination was really all just a means to an end - an extended Batman Gambit designed by Lolorito to eliminate Teledji without having any suspicion falling back on him - having our reputation destroyed and the Scions scattered was 'collateral damage' to him
Hence why I hate Lolorito even more now.
Notice that he made no move to wake the Sultana even though he could till Raubahn returned. Further, He could have avoided scattering the Scions if he wanted to with a few well placed words. He could have easily arranged for the Scions to escape as well.
Its telling he suddenly makes amends when he gains information that the Garleans have constructed a new flagship. Suddenly Raubahn and the Scions are valuable to him again rather than the annoyance they were before. You can also bet your bottom dollar Lolorito shored up his hold on power while he held the top position.
No I think what happened to the Scions wasn't collateral but intentional. Unfortunately the little bugger seems to have gotten away with it.
There's no real word, ingested poison that will kill you in seconds, like we often see on TV. The fastest is arguably cyanide, working in a few minutes.
However, there are injected poisons that will.
Furthermore, this is fantasy. There may be super deadly ingested poisons we don't have in reality.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME
In a world of magic and dragons are we really questioning how fast a poison works?
Nanamo drank a potent poisoning potion (HQ).
Zombies.. They are mostly believed to be the result of a concoction that will shock the body in to a death like coma with similar symptoms running up to appearing dead. It would explain a lot of the things that are said to be done from digging it up shortly after burial through the revival/enslavement process. However, despite a book or two and several accounts by victims. Science has not been able to replicate or produce anything close to "Zombie juice".Concentrated doses of certain kinds of poisons could, though throughout history, arsenic was the most common poison used on people and was often placed in their drinks or food. However, it didn't have the dramatic effect often depicted and the victim would become violently ill, sometimes for hours before death.

In the case of Nanamo, that is more likely just added drama. Even in fairy tales, they all go to sleep from some kind of poisonous object, but not with all the overacting.

"See, I'll myself a glass too. There's nothing in the wine I promise."
Never Poison the wine, ammeter. Poison the lining of the cup.
Oh my Queen ... you're not even dead but ppl here already become detective/docter trying to autopsy you ...
This is a game, not goddamn CSI or X-Files series.
