I doubt dungeons will require alexander gear. At least not untill a few more patches. But since you mentioned, let's talk about item level. This is one things Yoshie and co messed up with Alex.
No it's not about 170 being way too big. On the contrary.
Let's look at Coil item levels

Turn1 70
Turn2 73
Turn3 70
Turn4 77
Turn5 82

Now let's see the Ali G item levels

Floor1 170
Floor2 170
Floor3 170
Floor4 170

See the problem? I was able to get into floor 4 with the exact same gear I used to clear floor 1. The minimum of floor 1. I shouldn't have been allowed to do this. There are dps AND healer checks in the fights. People shouldn't be able to que into all four turns with the same minimum gear.

Except the entire point of Alex normal mode is to let as many people see it as possible.
Alex Normal = Story.
Alex Savage = OMGWTFITBURRRRRRRRRRRNS raiding.

if they made Alex normal any harder to access, it'd Coil all over again, with minimal people seeing it.

I've cleared all 4 floor in i170. My co healer too.

But we did it in our regular static raid setup.

Nope. FFXIV is a bit odd (in my opinion) that each boss within a raid is a separate instance, as opposed to one instance with multiple bosses. Makes sense to me that all bosses released at the same time share the same gear requirements.
