Considering quitting, can someone offer advice?

    Hello everyone,

First of all, the community has been very friendly here.

I love final fantasy games, and I was excited that this was my first MMO. But, frankly, I am finding this game very boring. I am 17 levels in and there has been little to no story line. I just finished the "Last Deserts" Main Quest and I can no longer find where I need to go to progress the game and hopefully get to something interesting.

I am now stuck in Wester Noscera. One issue I am having is the map, the world map is very confusing and makes it hard to figure out where I can go next, and I am starting to get to the point that I am tired of not having any kind of fun with the game.

Does the story get any better to make it worth continuing? If so, how do I find new main quests? Thanks a lot

    Hi,

Congrats on starting your first MMO! They sure are daunting for new players. It's a shame your on a different server to me as i could have come and helped you get back on track. It sounds like you'd be about to start to the Envoy quests in the Main Storyline, following these unlock the first few Dungeons - Sastasha (lvl 15), Tam Tara Deepcroft (lvl 16) and Copperbell Mines (lvl 17). After completing the dungeons the Story will start to get interesting and the game really starts opening up.

It might be worthwhile looking for a Free Company to join as other players are the best source of advice for new players.

Looks like your starting city is Limsa Lominsa - here's a guide showing 1-15 main quests there :- http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Ma...est/Level_1-15

Hope this helps get you back on track and enjoying the game again

Just Deserts? That's only at level 9, so you're a bit behind in the Main Scenario quests. Having seen "little to no story line" is mostly that you just haven't gotten very far into the story yet. It'd help to get a bit further in before trying to decide whether you like it or not.

As already mentioned, Baderon at the Drowning Wench (the Adventurer's Guild) will give you the next quest in the main story line. In most cases, the NPC you complete one quest with will then give you the next quest. In the few cases where it's not actually the same NPC, it will be someone standing nearby, within sight of him. So whenever you turn in one Main Scenario quest, look around for the next one. (Oh, and those are the ones with the flaming circle around the quest icon. The ones within a symbol that might be a Q or might be a speech balloon are side-quests.)

The link doesn't actually set it to the right tab. Since that page has all the level 1-15 quests and they're divided into tabs according to which city you started in, you'll need to click the "Limsa Lominsa" tab to see the right ones.

(There are three different storylines for the first 15 levels, one for each starting city. At level 15, they all merge into one, and everyone follows the same story from then on.)

Your next main scenario quest is called Sky High, and you can pick it up from Baderon in the Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa. He's the same NPC that accepted the turn in for Just Deserts. When you turn in a quest, make sure you look around for the next one! I did that a number of times in the beginning--I'd turn a quest in, start to turn around and leave the area and then glance at my mini map where I'd notice a new quest marker right next to me. :-)

The map is... a bit cumbersome truly. I've finally gotten the hang of it, but it took a while! I found this for my husband who is still having trouble with it:

I hope that helps a bit!

This game definitely has a bit of a slow start.

IMO, the story is pretty good and worth continuing (But if you beat the 2.0 arc, at times things do slow down a bit between that and the expac). However... the problem with asking on a forum like this is, well, you'll mostly get answers from those of us that like the game.

I would encourage you to continue with the main story until level 34/35. If it still hasn't hooked you by the quests you do then, it's not going to, and at that point you can quit without wondering about "what if".

This is my first MMO in maybe 15 years. so yea its kinda like my first cause i was young as hell on ff11 and didnt really know how to play. but i feel your pain its hard to get into but you have to put in work. At level 17 you have experienced maybe 5% of the game. Maybe less. Seriously.

I played till 20, stopped for a month. When I returned i found a FC that really showed me the ropes. This game has TONS to offer. Farming and selling on the Market Board alone is fun as hell, fishing and sight seeing is amazing, running dungeons for drops, chocobo racing, monster hunts, cross class abilities, i can go on and on and on.

my advice to you is /shout Hey guys i jsut started playing this game and looking for somebody to kinda guide me through and you should have a ton of people hitting you up. Another good thing to do is go to FFXIVGUILD and read the levelng guide for your class. that website helped me tons.

Thanks so much for all your help guys! I really appreciate it! I played for another six hours, just grinding down main quests.... and I had to stop, I just couldn't take it anymore. Each quest was very uninteresting, and although I did get to this really cool boss battle (Right after the Serpent guild fight, or something) but I just got to the point that I couldn't put in anymore time.

For me, the biggest thing that hurt was that the game started off way to slow, slow I started going out into the fields and grinding monsters for experience but I wasn't doing the quests. Once I went back, I think I still had a TON of boring quests in front of me and I just couldn't do it anymore. I think I will try again really soon. Was I really close to the interesting content?

I'm mostly going to stand by my previous post. But... if it's really so boring that you just can't take it.... well... I'm sorry to say that your time might be better spent elsewhere.

This is an MMO and while it is more story centric than most MMO's it doesn't change the fact it will not play exactly like a single player RPG. Something else to keep in mind is like most MMO's the higher the level the more content you have access to so will always start off less interesting at low levels.

To be honest, if you don't like the kill X amount or gather Y amount type of quests then I fear MMO's might not be your cup of tea altogether. All the MMO's I've played over the last decade contain them.

If you like to do dungeons then the first one unlocks through the storyline at level 15, if you keep that chain up Most dungeons, primal battles and other stuff unlocks through the storyline. Not all though, for some dungeons you have to go out of the way to find them

So far I never had to resort to fighting monsters to level up. That way you get very little XP as well, so it'll take ages doing so. If you are having trouble earning XP, then I would recommend doing fate's in the area where you currently are. And pick up some leve quests from the towns there.
