But otherwise both openers deals about the same amount of damage as trying to predict when a fights ends is quite hard and therefore finding the optimal opener hard.
After a certain point you should stop refreshing DoTs and stop adding Buffs (Dragon Kick/ Twin Snakes), so right before the boss/add dies you should redo the Bootshine/True Strike/Snap Rotation, (Bootshine/Twin Snakes/Snap if its an add and you have something to attack after that add dies).

This is one reason why parsers are so good for even the smallest of things to boost your dps because you have an easier time of knowing if the add will die when you go to repeat your Bootshine/True Strike/Snap rotation, based on how much group wide dps your group has and how much hp the boss has. Unfortunately as a Ps4 player I do not have access to a parser.

    Applying DoTs

Hi guys! I have q question about DoTs. Should I apply then before or after they wear off? Which will make my DPS increase?

As a side note for those interested these are:
Demo: 3 ticks, 9 seconds of up time which makes it 190 potency
ToD: 7 ticks, 21 seconds of up time which makes it 195 potency
Fracture: 4 ticks, 12 seconds of up time which makes it 180 potency
Also worth to be noted is that fracture is better than ToD if it is going to be up for less than 8 ticks.

I believe the parser won't help predicting that much when it comes to adds, unless it has a lot of HP one single attack or crit can disrupt the rythm, so the only way to know this is from gut feeling. But it makes it easier to predict it on a boss.

Hey all, I've recently been playing MNK to get ready for 3.2 in case I decide to switch mains. I think I've got the opener figured out and the rotation flows pretty smoothly. I seem to do around 1520-1540 over 4 minutes on a dummy with party bonus, food and x-pot at i210. I also tried for 3 minutes and my best was 1568.

Is that normal or do I need some more improvement? Any 1600+ MNK videos? I tried looking on YouTube but couldn't find any.

The reason I go demo first is because I start a boss fight with shoulder tackle while standing with the rest of the group (don't always have the same MT so can be unpredictable pulling). This places me right at the rear of boss for demo.

Just did a few 3:30 parses (600 accuracy, no party, food or potions) with the two openers and these were my results including critical hit rate:

    S>S>D

    1.) 1536, 29%
    2.) 1526, 27%
    3.) 1510, 28%
    4.) 1494, 31%
    Average: 1516.5, 28.75%

    D>S>S
    1.) 1530, 29%
    2.) 1496, 27%
    3.) 1538, 30%
    4.) 1500, 27%
    Average: 1515.75, 28.25%

While this is an extremely limited sample size, there is hardly any noticeable difference between the two rotations. The reason I believe people opt to SP > SP > Demo is because you can get the positional on the 1st SP as well as avoid the 2-3 second clip on the 2nd Demolish, whereas with the Demo > SP > SP opener, you're synchronizing with raid utility to apply a fully buffed Demolish with things like Battle Litany, Trick Attack or Hypercharge active. Because of that reason, I'm of the belief that the latter edges out in the end (albeit by a tiny margin).

As for the reason why you see top Monks use Demo first, I'm going to guess that it's largely an ingrained habit at this point. There are plenty of very good Monks out there like Olivia Sen & Saobuks Bro who I know use Snap first, but the Demo meta predates Ossum's opener and consequently, for better or for worse, you'll see it used more often. Ultimately, I would advocate do whatever you feel comfortable with. Eventually, in a non-dummy fight (aka every turn in Alexander Savage minus Faust), you'll settle into almost the exact same rotation as your counterpart anyway.

Rather than focusing on the sequence of these particular few GCDs, I think the most advantageous adjustment people can make to their openers is popping BFB/IR/Potion after acquiring GL3 and DK+TwS. Common arguments for prematurely buffing are "burst", but those few seconds where you peak out taper down extremely fast. I also recall experimenting with early buffing and I believe you miss out on a few buffed Demos later on which is even worse.

I use shoulder tackle before Perfect Balance in this rotation. But if you are already close to the boss, Shoulder Tackle can be used after Steel Peak and before Howling Fist for maximun efficiency.

Question about sustained rotations: do you use ogcd as soon as they refresh or do you wait for B4B and IR to go up to do a burst round? I don't parse so I'm not sure if either is good or bad.
