True, I would just like an optional World or general chat so it feels like the people are actually alive, haha.The duty finder removed a lot of the game's forced interaction. Sadly this leads to players being able to remain insular and not need to community build to enjoy the game.
XI had a robust community due to all the forced interaction. It's the stuff people decry that made it bring people together.
Look at something like experience loss. Terrible if you ask anyone, but mechanically it made players aware of their surroundings and at worst have a white mage friend on call to recoup your losses. Encouraging team play.
There isn't really much the developers can do now with duty finder instilling a solo mentality in players from early game.
More community tools and uses of systems like free companies would be required to foster any sense of community.
Spell casting animations. Gawd how I miss them... Even just standing with staff drawn in 1.0, looked so much better...
But combat animations overall, looked better because they were performed slower than ARR, wich were actually nice.
ARR is on crack on that area, and with all theese flashing animations going on, I'm honestly surprised there havent been an increase in epileptic seizures since ARR released.
Its hard to even see what the animation looks like, due to all the extra flashy graphic happening.

Then there were also the small details on belts and armor, that had its own physics... looked amazing.
All the time they have to keep the game where a PS3 can run it the graphics are going to suffer. They want to change things but they are unable to do so before they dump the PS3 compatibility. Hopefully within a year we will be able to see some big changes in things.

Duty Finder has it's downsides, no argument, but for me the upside is better. I don't want to have to wait for a party to possibly form and having to shout throughout the various zones to find willing people. Having a party finder sit empty until I have to log off for the night because either people aren't on or because nobody is interested in whatever older content I need. I don't have that kind of time. While I've had bad interactions in DF, I've had some stand-out-good ones as well. Mostly it's just middle of the road but my experience has been roughly 50-50 good/bad on the exceptional runs.
I hadn't actually seen much 1.0 combat before today, but I've heard a number of people say that combat visuals/animations is one area in which 1.0 was superior. Having now watched that video and another... I couldn't disagree with that sentiment more. The only aspect of 1.0's animations that were better is the "weight" aspect. I.e., for not just one particular set of skills or one class but for the character movements in general, there was a bit more of a sense of a character's limbs being weighted, being more grounded and heavier, in a way that looks more realistic. 2.0's animations, not across the board but in some cases, look a bit stiff because of the lack of same. This, I assume, is a PS3 limitations thing, and yeah, it's a bit of a shame.
That and the butts. Which isn't "animation", but is still "character graphics."
Those things aside, I'll stick with 2.0's animations. The lack of speed in the 1.0 stuff isn't a positive. It's so much less dynamic and interesting. Everything just looks stunted and halting. It looks like practice, not combat, because everyone is moving like "Okay so, I'm going to try... stabbing this way... and then... I'll... turn and... slash..." Ugh. And the way the character model insists on completely returning to idle stance between attacks just makes it even more ridiculous looking.
The weightedness to the character's limbs (i.e. a heavy foot plant after a jump and such) is neat, yes, but the animations for the techniques themselves don't look very good. They're not "fluid", they're just mushy. And what's with all the repetition? Clicking around Youtube after watching Kanash's video, I also found this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1m0B_OTjsk Watch the first one minute and twenty seconds (the Pugilist section)... most of the attacks are the same animation. Even the video uploader comments on this at 0:40.
And archer?? (At 3:30 in the video I linked). WOW that looks horrible! The movements and speed and just... everything looks more like a modern sport archer practicing against a stationary target, not an actual medieval combat archer. 2.0 does this WAAAAY better.
So yeah. For the most part, 2.0 combat visuals stomp all over 1.0.
