    FFXIV V1.0's worst crime:

    Copy Paste.

    V1.0 Is this Camp Riversmeet?

    V3.0's Camp Riversmeet (Western Coerthas)

Now look at other V1.0 camps:

V1.0 Mor Dhona Renevants Toll again

V3.0 Mor Dhona - Renevants Toll (Camp)

Pretty much every "camp", including Camp Dragonhead is nothing more than a tent.

    V1.0 Camp Dragonhead

    V3.0 Camp Dragonhead

    Here's another one...

    v1.0 Dusk Vigil

    v1.0 Banepool

    V3.0 Dusk Vigil/Banepool

    V1.0 Prominence Point

    V3.0 Providince Point/Steel Vigil

Kisai, I get 1.0 copy pastad a lot of stuff, but what was the point in doing comparison shots between 1.0 and 3.0?

V1.0 DX9 and V3.0's DX10 performance is about the same on the same hardware.

The Western Coerthas areas are interesting because that's the only Large area that is even remotely comparable to V1.0's, even then it's still at least scaled down by half.

Camp Dragonhead and every "Camp" are essentially identical, only varying by the tents. Even the NPC's were the same and standing in the same place.

The Vigil's in Coerthas are also copy-paste's of each other in V1.0, where as in V2.0/V3.0 they are completely different looking, and a completely different scale.

When I first set foot in Eorzea during 1.0, I fell in love. Yes 1.0 was lacking many things but they did one thing right that most major MMOs still seem to leave out. What I am speaking of is realistic running animation.
I don't mean just the look of sprinting though. In 1.0 (for those that didn't play or have never seen it played) you leaned into turns and your character could not stop on a dime like they do now. It gave your movement weight and that is a feeling no other MMO ever really has had. It is something so little, but I can't even explain with words how awesome that feature was, and I know I am not alone in this thought. . Not only did you lean though. if you were sprinting and tried to stop, you would slide a little. Something so simple as this added so much to the atmosphere of the game!
Don't forget 1.0 wasn't as elitist swarmed as it is now. 1.0 was full on a community game, which made it fun to me, even though the game was actually really, really bad. Taking like 2-3 hours to walk from limsa to gridania to find out now one leaves ul'dah ;D

Although FF14 still has one of the best communities, I agree that 1.0 had the absolute best community I had played with on an MMO/Multiplar game. I remember the great moments of people coming in and saving me when I picked the wrong fight by pulling agro or healing. Just these actions that benefited the other player with nothing, were common and it made you feel like you were friends with every player you encountered. Plus they look better running in with those 1.0 running animations

I listened to an article that went into detail about Human and human memory: Memory and Forgetting

TLDR: The more you remember a particular thing or a particular event, the more susceptible it is to being altered (largely to a more extreme pole ; "either positive or negative"). So to those that say "X was the best experience ever", I highly doubt your claim based off your memory alone.

I remember camping YinYang Robe for SMN in FFXI. For a week straight. I set my clocks, I daydreamed about it during my classes, I would rush home to my PS2 to log in and recruit some LS friends. In my head it was the most taxing but rewarding experience. In reality, I leave out the part where I got sick from poor sleep and poor eating. Not my best choice regarding an MMO.

Cant say that i share your view on the FFXIV community, i think its filled with toxic and vile just like every other modern mmo.

Following is not directed at anyone in particular, just a generalisation.
In my experience most communities even though they can start out good turns to garbage, because ppl lose their way and forget where they themselves came from.
FFXI had a great community in the earliest years of its life, but even that had a decline in overall behaviors as time progressed. RoZ, CoP where great expansions great community, slow decline starting with ToAU and down a slippery slope it went.
How fast a community deteriorates into toxic, elitist garbage is generaly in line with what the games design philosophy is like.

Don't get me wrong there are nice people to encounter within the game, but they are few and far appart. You're more likly to encounter impatient, self centered, entitled players that dont allow others to play the game.

You might claim its my opinion and not fact, but i ask you to then think and notice how many times you encounter someone new in a dungeon. How many of them tell you with an appologetic tone how they havent done it before, but fear not for they have watched a video/guide.

How many times do ppl demand others to watch a guide, explain everything to everyone without being asked.

Ill be so bold to claim that it happens alot and is a fact. But it is my opinion that the behavior is wrong, and that people should play the game and be allowed to play the game. Defeat, wipe, learning is part of the playing a game with others experience. And the first time someone is at a new encounter it happens only once, so you might say you dont want to wipe because its wasting your time. You where also once new and at an encounter for the first time, and i hope for your sake that you got to experience it foryourself and learn from it.

People actually talked in the game back in 1.0, now the game is basically dead silent outside your FC. It lost a sense of community when it went to 2.0 and 3.0.

I believe the introduction of Duty Finder had a heavy hand in the matter of sense of community as well imo.

The duty finder removed a lot of the game's forced interaction. Sadly this leads to players being able to remain insular and not need to community build to enjoy the game.

XI had a robust community due to all the forced interaction. It's the stuff people decry that made it bring people together.

Look at something like experience loss. Terrible if you ask anyone, but mechanically it made players aware of their surroundings and at worst have a white mage friend on call to recoup your losses. Encouraging team play.
