Chocobo in Rank 10

My Chocobo is now in Rank 10 and he doesn't gains more exp. What I need to do now? I have a Thavnairian Onion. I think it unlocks the way to the next rank (in my case, the Rank 11), right?

But, one thing... I read that Free Companies and Housing are related with the Chocobo training (well, I mean chocobo stables).

It's obligatory the chocobo stable? (I'm not in a FC and I don't have a house). What happens if I give the Onion to my Chocobo right now without the help of a stable? Will it unlock the Rank 11 anyway? And if that so, what's the difference between giving the Onion without a chocobo stable and with one?

I don't believe you can give your onion to your Chocobo without the stable, as you need to have it stationed in a stable in order to feed it.

You need to summon you bo and "use" the Thavanian Onion then to increase the level. Be aware you cannot increase unless current XP gain is capped.

You dont need a stable to use the Thavnairian Onion to incress lvl cap. The stables just let you feed your choco every hour for exp and allow you to change the color of your choco. You'll need a Thavnairian Onion for every lvl past 10 so a total of 10 Thavnairian Onion's. Give your choco an Onion after you reach each lvl cap.
