This game needs Glamour Wardrobe (aka Armoury Log) - as in, once you acquire an item and make spiritbond with it, it gets added to an Armoury Log.
Then you can store/dispose of the item from your inventory and whenever you want to use that item's skin as glamour appearance, you copy that appearance from the Armoury Log.
FFXIV depics itself as theme park MMO, therefore emphasis on character appearance customisation is strong. At the same time, due to weak server infrastructure, character inventory is severely restricted. We are forced to pay real money for extra NPC storage if we want to store item sets for future glamour usage. This system is very cumbersome as you have to go through your own inventory and then inventories of up to six NPCs (Retainers) and possibly even event item storage wardrobe to find item for every slot for every job.
Other games do it much better, for example:
GW2 https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wardrobe
Rift http://riftwardrobe.wikia.com/wiki/Wardrobe
SWTOR http://massivelyop.com/2015/03/24/hy...tfit-designer/
InB4 WoW doesn't have costume system.
Changes to be made:
- spiritbonding an item unlocks it on a glamour list. After that, item appearance can be copied from the list instead of having to store item in inventory for possible future uses.
- abolish requirement for armour to be of the same material (people want to be able to glamour heavy armour on cloth armour and vice versa). Requirement for weapons to be of the same type as well as gender specific lock could stay.
- make glamour unlocks account wide, so that alternate characters can use glamours unlocked on main character
- ability to glamour Retainer armour based on the same principle as player character
- add 'glamour sets', where you can save glamour looks for every armoury slot and them apply appearance of all items at once on top of currently worn armour.
