Maybe I just have more melds but on a single gp food cycle (makes patience and powerful hookset easier to use without waiting for gp to build) I catch 10-12. I also use cordials to maximize my time using patience . Now I only fish on days when it's on bonus. If I can clear out more retainer inventory I'll probably start casually fishing and store them until a bonus day.

Anyway point is I'm catching 10x as many in only a 4th of the time.

Another tip is to only reel in on cast that vibrate twice. That's the sweet fish or illuminati perch. I use a controller and feel the controller rumble to identify the fish. I'm not sure if there is a visual difference between the single and double vibrates(sorry if you a keyboard and mouse player). The only big catch is the Highland and I recommend catching it. I went through 14 jigs in a day from not catching them, although skipping the animation did save alot of time and gp.
