    I just realized that there were more pages of replies here and the guy wasn't Provoking?! Ok, see, asking the OT to swap out of tank stance is legit because of how it helps with holding hate and all, but if you ain't Provoking no amount of stance changing is gonna help you lmfao

    As much as I love pushing my limits as a Warrior and figuring out when I can stance dance into Deliverance and how I can up my damage, I can't stand it when tanks think they should do this to the detriment of their primary function: holding aggro and surviving hits. I have always balanced my Fending vs. Slaying accessories and now my stance-dancing against what damage is going out and what my healers can handle. I may stretch them a bit but I'll never deliberately make a choice that will cause them to stress out or panic.

    It's about knowing the balance. Do as much damage as you can, but only when you can do it and still eat the incoming hits like a boss. Stance dancing comes when you start to learn the content better.

    I think that's the right attitude for a tank.
    Please tell this to the person in my FC who complained I wasn't a 950 dps War my first time in Rav Ex

    {Thank You}

    Eh, I've done the fight solo as both War and Drk with out a tank swap and in DF so it's not needed at ALL time. Either way you did request for a swap so the War should've been getting ready for that. War's have always been the Tank to try and compete against other DPS which hell if you can beat a DPS as a War before it was all "Haha, suck less nub". Now with deliverance it just makes doing that easier, and I've noticed more than a fair share of DPS with out PLD passed 15. They are just DPS gone tank. As a tank your first job is to get the ever-living shit beat out of you and survive. Second is to worry about your DPS. If you're good at your job, you won't have to worry about your DPS and you can do both. Knowing when to stance dance is key. Some tanks shouldn't be tanks and should stick to a DPS class.

    Or they can just learn to play the game, since DPS actually have to deal with mechanics later on and can whipe a party in some instances. While the tank and just sit there and press a extra button outside of their hate combo every 10-30 seconds. =X

    Being the OT, you actually have to deal with every single mechanic the DPS are encountering, plus the additional tank swaps, dealing with adds and even more mechanics (like Akh morn, tempest wing in T13). You make it sound like a tank has the easiest job within the raid.

    If I'm MTing or doing 4-man content, I view DPSing as a dessert: it's really really cool, and I want it, but I gotta eat my vegetables first. Granted, this isn't difficult in most situations. If I'd started leveling War with this expansion, I'd have just assumed that Thrill of Battle and Deliverance were designed simultaneously with each other in mind; they feel good together.

    Shouldn't really be the mentality in four man content, the incoming damage is a joke. The only time it isn't really is AOE pulls

    Also if you're doing an AOE pull keep in mind in addition to the extra damage from the stance swap (25% no defiance + 5% deliverance) you now gain access to decimate which is 260 potency aoe compared to 200. For a lower hp pool, you're gaining a much better return on self heals in deliverance in aoe pulls, in addition to not having to mitigate anymore because they'll die quicker. Once your bloodbath or tp run out though switch stances.

    Ideally this is what I do for AOE defiance > pull and gather the mobs > apply maim finish combo > switch into deliverance then bloodbath and OP spam. You can use zerk + raw + veng for a free decimate then infuriate for another one. Before you get decimate it's better to double steel cyclone then stance swap. Downside is lose raw and veng for the pull but you still have thrill, lolforesight, and conv for the next one.

    Only went through war since it's the class in the thread but the same applies to all classes really. As long as you're not lowering group/raid dps, not botching a mechanic, and not getting yourself or others killed (really hard to do this tbh in current content), anytime you can optimize by increasing DPS you should do that. Tank DPS regardless if PLD/DRK/WAR is nothing to be laughed at if done properly. Most tanks I see are roughly at half their potential DPS wise in almost every fight I've been in. Although to be fair a lot of DPS end up somewhere between half and 75% of what they should be performing at too /shrug
