It's not as simple as stitching things together. I suppose we can give up a dungeon instance if you like, although I feel most people would become quite bored with the invisible barrier around the housing areas that limits you to, oh, 200 meters height and surrounds the entire area.
Yes. Unlike when making this thread, I've since seen the outside barrier of Mist and realise that making the idea true would require more work than I initially though. But I still think it's fairly possible.

The main reasons why I would like flying to be added is because
    1) with HW you're kind of used to flying and it's slightly annoying when you can't
    2) people would be able to access their rooftops and balconies on any plot or without crazy glitch tricks

The point is: you wouldn't need to be able to fly high. Just so you can reach the rooftops.

Going to use Mist as an example here because it's the trickiest one. If the middle wheel was made accessible as a landing spot, they would need to fix the look of outer hills a bit but those part should still be out of reach. I still think they could extend the beach limit just a bit without breaking immersion to fly over the "deep" side of water, maybe add a raft with a picnic set as a landing spot that's just out of reach by walking.

As for Lavender Beds and Goblet, they already have high rocks/hills outside so only minor modification or none at all would be necessary.

I really like the idea to fly around, I know Yoshi-P has said that 2.0 are no-flying zones, but I think to be able to fly can be easily to implement and wont disrupt the gameplay or code too much in housing areas.

Especially with the addition of Isgardian housing, which most likely will be set in the Sea of Clouds.

While it may be easy to implement the flying function into 2.0 areas you have to keep one thing in mind: when and how did you achive flying?

Everyone far enough in the storyline and therefore most likely all of your friends aquired flying by now. Think of the new players though. They have to play through all the storyline up to heavensward where you unlock the ability.

I would love to fly in old areas (it annoys me just as much that I can't) I really doubt they will ever implement this to old areas. Especially when you consider the large areas of 3.0+ (where flying is almost a must to proceed through the map in an equivalent time frame) compared to the rather small areas of 2.0.

you are right Sere i dont think they will ever implement flying in the 2.0 areas (outside world maps) because they werent designed for that feature... but i like the idea of flying at least at the housing areas... we just finished our mog house yesterday - so chilling ontop would be totally nice for us to celebrate it

Yea I love how you have an actual "floor" on top of Goblet houses. I wish we could make them useable/accessable. A roof party! Think about how cool that would be! So yea, stairs would do but I'm totally in for flying around the housing area. It would be like your private "helichoco" landing platform!

That's a good question though, hadn't thought about it. But unlocking things is the same for everyone, we have to run through some hoops to be able to participate. I think after you're able to fly in the first map it could be added automatically for housing areas too. And veteran players could still offer pillion rides to the roofs for lower levels.
