But, here are some examples: Trash that is a challenge, bosses with random abilities, or abilities that are cast at random, fights where positioning matters (beyond just facing the boss away from the party and pulling him to the edge of the fighting space), mechanics that work differently based on your party make up, fights that require crowd control, and timed challenges.
A lot of these fall under content that you'd argue "shouldn't be here anymore" because it's not commonly queued for anymore.

Because that's basically a long list of Extreme Primals, Coil, Ultima's Ballad, etc

Also just because you don't necessarily use Linkshells doesn't mean there aren't some of us that are in several to keep connections with friends from other FCs or similarly minded individuals for certain purposes (hunts, challenge fights, etc). Why get rid of the ability for players to create chat channels?

A lot of your "things you want to see removed" are "things I'm not doing/using/understand why they're there", which is shortsighted and selfish.

Wait, tell me when the last time you used a potion? be honest. If they took the potions out of the game tomorrow, would you miss it? will people all over the game start failing duties? I wanna know who uses potions on a regular in endgame? tell me. Now, sane with food. When was the last time you not eating some chestnuts cost you a run, especially in endgame? And finally, if SE said they were removing potions to make more inventory room and armory room, how many people will complain? How many hot bar slots do you have dedicated to potions? I wager none. Or maybe one. I wouldn't miss potions, especially now that they nurfed earlier lvls. I would rather them increase exp fighting random mobs in the open world than have me pop a lizard foot in my mouth for 3% boost to kill a mob in a dungeon that people speed run through. Whens the last time you killed every mob in a dungeon for exp?

This right here is basically the evidence you've never actually been to endgame.

or maybe gone level grinding, for that matter

I do. Do you even endgame? If you do, but you don't use food and Potions to maximize your potential then your team may need to pick up the slack where you fall short. Try using them sometime. They are incredibly potent.

X-ether during Floor 4 Alexander, Phase 3. X-potion when I am soloing on lowbies.

Good tanks that let people get exp or want exp for themselves clear the whole dungeon. Don't bring everyone down to your level and assume everyone is like you.

The dev team is actually introducing "baby versions" of some mechanics that you can only find in raids. The thing is, Yoshi-p and team want their dungeons to be part of the "casual content" box. 24-man content is a complete faceroll, but you would be surprised how people find better ways to get rid of certain mechanics as they play it.

But yeah, all the things you're looking for, you'll find it while doing some end-game. Ask your friends to take you through Coil, I've checked and you didn't do it yet. It was nerfed to the ground, but it's a small glimpse of what you're going to find in future content.

You also didn't run most of the available dungeons. Specially the dungeons in the expansion. The dev team learned a lot from the players' feedback. You would be surprised how these dungeons post 50 have plenty of different mechanics and you might enjoy them!

The OP does have many bad suggestions but don't overlook the very good one! Being able to re-queue with randoms. If i'm with a random group in df that does great I'd love the choice to do it again with them.

Things I think FFXIV can get rid of:
    - Guildheists
    - Potions
    - Food
    - Chocobo fighting
    - Hunting/Sightseeing logs
    - City to City Airships
    - Treasure Chests
    - Linkshells
    - Irrelevant quest lines (Ultima's Bane, Relic Weapon, etc)
    for that one thing

    Hope just some expanation:
Guildheists - Yes they are suppose to teach you how to party play, but they are really nothing more than an exp boost now. People do guildheist roulettes everyday for the exp and GC seals.

Potions - For end game raiders - no matter if it is the +STR/DEX/INT potions to squeeze out that extra damage to pass a DPS check or just MP pot to let out that extra flare, people use it.

Food - Again, more useful for progression raiders like the Binding Coil when it has no echo or nerfs - any extra damage, any extra HP (it can add a few hundred) helps surviving stuff.

Chocobo fighting - Just a companion to help you kill things fasters and/or heal you. They aren't that much help but better than nothing. Example: it allowed me to kill lv59 mobs at lv50 for daily marks because my bird heals me.

Hunting/Sightseeing logs - Both Exp boosts, and achievement for those people that care about achievement points and stuff. It helps leveling especially before all the exp boost, roulettes and other stuff that came out.

City to City Airships - I think it was more for the story component - I would say for your first time traveling from 1 city to another, you used the airship and not walked there as you didn't have the aetheryte attuned yet.

Treasure Chests - What's wrong with it? To get gear and stuff?

Linkshells - I have multiple linkshells, talking to friends outside of the FC or raids or for hunts. Some friends I made were in their own FC already, Linkshell give me an easier way to communicate.

Irrelevant quest lines (Ultima's Bane, Relic Weapon, etc) - Relic weapons were top tier weapons, fully upgraded at lv50 was even better than Dreadwyrm weapon - the best raid weapon. And other Primal/Ultima fights provided gear/weapons for players - unfortunately became irrelevant once the ilvl raises in vertical progression game.
