I played ESO when it had a sub, and I quit playing it about a month later. That should explain just how much I personally liked that game.

I've always been an Elder Scrolls fan, but that game just couldn't captivate me. All the lore in the world, all the story, couldn't keep me in. I just didn't have fun playing it, and I'm not quite sure you can quantify that! You can see it looks better graphically, but it doesn't look better artistically nor aesthetically.

I can't argue how FFXIV is better than ESO, because frankly maybe it isn't, but I really couldn't care less.

I like this game. I have fun playing it, and I wouldn't go back to ESO even now that it's gone F2P. Not when I have a more appealing option.

First of all, Im not telling you to go back to ESO. its not a game for you. This was really in response to Odie. But let me elaborate. He said because ESO dropped sub, that it was doing poorly. I disagree. I think you can have a successful game/mmo without a sub and that in doing that, you show you can succeed. Now I don't know why you didn't like ESO, you didn't list the reasons. What I listed is a fair question. What do I get for a sub in FF that I don't get from not having a sub in ESO?

They both have a story, they both have updates and patches and such. I just want your opinion based on the fact that you have played both, what justifies FF having a sub moreso than ESO not having one?


Oh, and with a sub in ESO, which I just found out today, expansions are included.

I do wish the timers on the potions were a little different and then maybe people would use them more.

I go through X-ethers like candy on all my mage jobs, and also on my bard. Just wish the cooldown was shorter.

I also use Buttons in a Blanket as my universal food on all my jobs - got something that benefits everyone, and I can make them cheaply myself.

The rest of the thread has already given a pretty solid point by point takedown of everything in the OP, but I did want to add in that I'm on a very active social LS on my server but my FC only has around 15 active players, so having the social LS fills in the gap when no one else is on. Makes the game less lonely.

Things I think FFXIV can get rid of:
- Guildheists
- Chocobo fighting
- Hunting/Sightseeing logs
- City to City Airships
- Treasure Chests
- Linkshells
- Irrelevant quest lines (Ultima's Bane, Relic Weapon, etc)

Clearly, we don't need LS at all. That's why most HL player have the max LS in their list and sometime have to leave one to join another.
Clearly Ultima's bane is useless because having some challenge with cool accessories as reward is useless. The relic weapon is useless too, who would like to have a weapon which can have its stat modified, with a cool appearance and a legendary name in the FF serie.
Clearly chocobo fighting isn't needed. We should just left those poor beast at the FC house and let them reproduce to have some eggs for breakfast.
Clearly there's no point in treasure hunt. Why should we make a fun content with rare material to craft awesome clothes, and loot cute minions?
Etc, etc.

Clearly, your point of view as a new player is useless, 'cause you don't know anything about the game.

Things I think would make FFXIV more fun:
- The ability to re-queue with random players we've been asking for this since release.
- Mobs that drop loot sadly, this doesn't fit all that well with the scheme of the game.
- More challenging mobs so much yes.
- Boss fights that require tactics (not memorization) yes, we need more of this...a few bosses are like this. most of those are raid bosses.
- More variety between jobs give it a few expansions.

If improvements can't be made to things because of over taxing the servers, I think FFXIV should trim some of the fat from the game.
Things I think FFXIV can get rid of:
- Guildheists they're there for you to level, and their first time bonus isn't restricted to your class.
- Potions It has been explained to me that potions and food are necessary in end game raiding.
- FoodIt has been explained to me that potions and food are necessary in end game raiding.
- Chocobo fighting kweh gets pretty OP if you grind it to max, they need to be expanded upon, not removed.
- Hunting/Sightseeing logs free EXP, and it makes look for pretty views in the process.
- City to City Airships cheaper than teleporting, and it lets the RPers and aimless wanderers like me have another method of travel.
- Treasure Chests mp pots are quite useful in endgame.
- Linkshells no.
- Irrelevant quest lines (Ultima's Bane, Relic Weapon, etc)at one point, these were relevant. old content is still fun to do anyway, and your relic ends up being a pretty cool vanity weapon when it's done completely.

this is an MMO, a lot of things are going to seem irrelevant to your playstyle. do what you think is worth doing, and ignore the rest!

I don't remember reading about anyone telling you to stop playing the game. I could be mistaken, but I certainly didn't mean that if that's the impression I gave you.

And this isn't an issue with the game community (regarding people and criticism). Try doing the kind of comments you did on any other popular game forum, the result is remarkably similar.
Besides, the same could be said about you from my perspective - claiming a game is worse / that the community is worst is hardly the way to bring people over to your side and get them to look at things the way you do.

You really shouldn't take it personally, I don't think anyone here is hating on you. More like hating on the ideas you're bringing to the table.
