Yea we all lovin Ifrit, no doubt.
But this White Raven looks too bad ass..with bad ass music.. Had to dedicate this thread for Nael van Darnus.

Well, we know the Garleans use a special tool and technique to extract Ceruleum from crystals, which is the power source for Magitek. I'm guessing Ceruleum is just a liquid form of aether or something along those lines. On that note, it wouldn't be off-colour for him to be able to literally harness the aether using some form of Magitek - especially when it's a raw leak of aetheric energy in the case of nodes. However, I'm sure it's just an extremely powerful magical technique that Darnus has mastered.

By the looks of it, he doesn't so much destroy the node as he does absorb the energy (destroying it in the process, of course). The nodes are just points where raw aether is leaking into the world - so, he soaks up the energy from the leak and lets it out in a massive blast. That ends up causing a violent reaction and aether starts sprewing up from the earth in greater quantities.

...At least that's what it looks like.

He is Nael Van Darnus, who has been eluded to a lot recently. He is a leader of a legion in the imperial ranks. He wields a gunlance, and that is probably is what is causing the shiny beam he is about to launch at the aetherial node. I would assume guncombo weapons dont shoot actual bullets but probably run on the energy they are harvesting from crystals. By attacking the node, they may be trying to attack ifrit directly, because the assume him to be a false deity.

At least we can safely assume that until Ifrit is felled, he's on our side... ish. He didn't seem too hasty to wipe me out in Horizon, anyway. I tried telling him I'd convert but his goals must be pretty schizophrenic because for some reason I wasn't teleported back to Garlemald for training...

It looks like he's absorbing the node/uses the power from the node to fire the beam. It disappears right before the blast starts.
