Its, just laziness, they want everything handed to them....I don't know why people complain about aether currents... Honestly they are hard to complete, takes at most 30 mins per area. If players have a problem with the amount of time it takes, this is FF, and I'd like to point out the Relic questline as how long it could have been...
Would you want flyable zones flat like a chess board?
For me, I hope in one of the next new flyable zones would be a very very big montain in the center of the zone. With a forest at the bottom and snow on the summit. and we would have to climp this montain (and not just teleport into another zone) to visit a castle.

you can't complete the aether currents until you pass/unlock certain part is the MSQ. If you are lvl 52 but didn't finish ur MSQ lvl57, then you can't unlocked fly. In a way the aether currents are tied with the MSQ.
That is the beauty of the currents. It force you to get to know what is going on that map and in the MSQ before getting access to flying.

The issue is more so that the quests and terrain alone that exist in the game aren't compelling enough to warrant a need to explore. Right now it's a lot more stick than carrot.A quest shouldn't be the same thing as a job: We have jobs already in the game in the form of leves. A quest should be an invigorating experience to go through and have some kind of real impact on the world, such as how the main scenario quest does. From what I've seen, the quests for the most part are all minor tasks that really don't push the same kind of narrative weight. Compare the stuff you are doing out in the overworld of Heavensward to something like the Manderville quest chain, for example.
Yes, the Manderville stuff doesn't have that serious overtone, but it's light hearted and quirky. Real thought went into this quest chain to make it as entertaining as possible and it feels like a labor of love. Even from the get go, it makes you feel as if you'd really be missing something if you didn't read all that text coming on the screen, which is a sensation that has been missing for a long time in MMO's pre voice acting.
Also, there are points in the overworld where the mini-map gets so busy with quest markers that it can be potentially overwhelming, and having fewer but deeper quests with stronger tales seems like a better approach than what they currently tried to do here.
Well then, don't find the aether currents, there is no mandatory reason for getting the ability of flight. If you find it un-engaging and tedious, then you'll suffer forever by walking, instead of pushing though the grind and feeling accomplished when you do fly.Uh, no. Read above posting. If someone doesn't want to do content because they don't find it engaging, then that isn't laziness. That is the person choosing to do things they do find engaging. It's just that in this case x activity is required to unlock a key part of what has been advertised as part of the expansion pack.
Stop being lazy if you don't wanna run around to unlock stuff then don't but do not wine about it they want you to explore![]()
It's not like it is hard to get the currents. Seriously, you have a compass that tells you exactly where to go, you see a shiny thing, you click on the shiny thing, check the compass again and repeat. They couldn't have dumbed it down any more if they had tried.
The one thing I can agree with is that the map can be difficult to read sometimes, since you can't tell what level a part of it is. The map says there SHOULD be a way there... but after looking for said way for half an hour you realize that it's on a different level altogether, whether it's below you or above you. =/ I really wish they'd used more differences in the shading of the map to indicate higher or lower "planes".
Last I checked no one is forcing anyone to do anything. This is an MMO and FF games (including their MMOs) are grindy. You would have not lasted a day in XI, lol. If you feel that something that requires zero skill is too hard then maybe you should consider WoW.

Never Reap -.- I hated that quest but no even though I hated doing the tedious flying quest its now done and dusted and before i get accused of wanting it handed to me I didn't like the idea of flying in the game from the start... tbh I havent logged in for a few days now I think I'm drifting from FFXIV after 5 years of playing x.x
