Yes, alright, I'll agree to that one, but in technicality Neverreap is an end-game optional side quest. Still not a mandate to get flying, since you can just skip Neverreap entirely.Never Reap -.- I hated that quest but no even though I hated doing the tedious flying quest its now done and dusted and before i get accused of wanting it handed to me I didn't like the idea of flying in the game from the start... tbh I havent logged in for a few days now I think I'm drifting from FFXIV after 5 years of playing x.x
Is this the new "please make ishgard available without clearing 2.0 msq"?
I cba to read the rest of this thread, but I have the exact opposite option to TC. Flight should be accessed through Aether Currents alone, and have nothing to do with main quest/side quests. I mean what's the point of unlocking flying in an area after it's main use had passed? And Aether Currents are fun, feels like an epic adventure hiking around trying to find them all. You also learn the area more thoroughly that way too, something quests don't really do.
Honestly the only reason SE locked it behind MQ is so they could put more bullshit filler "fight monsters on the way to XXX" quests in. Solution? Cut those out and add the EXP they'd give to quests that actually matter. Filler is one of this game's biggest issues, but that's another problem entirely.
The maps are purposely designed with flight in mind, that's why it's so frustrating to travel on the ground... I think they did this on purpose so that flight feels rewarding (which it does!) I personally LOVE the Aether Current feature, it beats all those other games that ask for a huge sum of gold then gives you flying for every zone :\

I hate how they implemented unlocking flying, but I ground it out and finally got them all. Glad, that torture is over and can fly now.
Extremely strongly disagree, searching for the Aether Currents is the most fun I've ever had in the open world in FF14. Take your terrible opinions elsewhere instead of posting them as if they were facts.
I personally loved finds the 10 aether Currents on each of the new maps, some of those felt like true jumping puzzles, now the 5 quest aether currents sucked for m, so if we could make 14 hidden on the map and 1 story quest aether current then I'm all for that!
Pretty much.. it is the "I bought the game, now can i have everything unlocked and handed time right away ASAP" - stop telling me that I have to explore, do the quests, and actually play the game. Soon they will make another thread "Can we skip all MSQ and give us level 60 ASAP so we can do the raids - while at it, give us instant gears 170 without doing anything but talking to one npc".
But... why?
having flying unlocked from the start would take so much of the fun out of it. The wild aether currents and quests are made so that you have to explore the map and learn the lay of the land on foot first.
Think of it like attuning to an aetherite. You cant just automatically teleport to a place you haven't been yet. Therefore you shouldn't be able to fly in a place you haven't explored (i.e. exploring the map = attuning to an aetherite)
