When you idle with your star globe out (unsheathed), you can visibly see two rings, along with the solid circular center piece.

When the Astrologian casts a spell with any star globe, the second ring closest to the solid circular piece disappears completely



You can see the two rings here, with the solid circular center piece of the globe. This star globe has a smaller inner black ring, and a bigger outer red one.



When you cast any magick spell, you can see the inner ring between the outer and circular solid center piece disappears.

this can be repeated with any star globe.

From that screenshot, it's impossible to tell if the ring is missing, or just rotating together with the other ring.
