I'm still having trouble with DirectX11 and ffxiv:hw and I had a few hiccups recently with 9 running so it's far from resolved. Resolved my a$$.
I run an AMD r9 285.
I just want to run my game in 11 w/o the "when will I freeze up and have to do a relog from scratch to get back in" in the back of my head.

r9 380 - dx9 perfect - dx11 random crash after 5 min in game (driver needs to reset)
I just wish I could figure out what error I'm even getting.
There's no log anywhere. No driver message, nothing. Just.. closes.
I'd like to reiterate that this is probably a separate issue from the black screen crashes.
This is specifically happening in combat, not when zoning or anything of the sort.
I ran the game just fine for 7 hours earlier in the day, and did the entire first part of Alex without issues but as soon as we got midway through that battle with the bombs and the mech you pull them away with.... crash.
Two pulls in a row.
Said F it and went back to DX9 so my group could kill it. Healer crashing midfight is a bitch.

I think there are a lot of separate but related issues surrounding the dx11 client. My game doesn't even "crash" per se. It just minimizes itself and then can't be un-minimized. I think the fact that there are so many different ways this problem is manifesting for people mans it's going to be very difficult to research / solve =/I just wish I could figure out what error I'm even getting.

If you guys are crashing at loading or at the launch of the game try reinstalling/installing Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 (both x86 and x64)

It helped me especially when i was having lauch crashes.
May I ask: is it the EVGA version of the GTX 970 you've got?I also get these complete system crashes with dx9 and dx11. I'll log in and sometimes be smooth for a couple hours other times just 10-15 minutes and game sends my comp into a bsod with noise. Only a hard system restart will get my system back up and running. Can't find any issue with my comp and I can play plenty of other intensive games without an issue and no issue when I run a maxed out system benchmark. I'm running an intel 4690, gtx 970, and 16gigs of high speed gamer ram.
This is getting really annoying as I just returned to the game where my old system before upgrade would play at max settings without a hitch. 3 times in a row now crashed trying to do the first machinist duty.
So, I decided to maybe try going back to the dx9 client and that seriously won't even start up for me. I don't understand this game.
Its the Gigabyte version actually. Some others have been saying the issue is due to the factory OCs of our cards though so I tried setting mine at the GeForce base specs. Only have had maybe 2 hours to try it after that but no crashes during then.
I have an EVGA GTX 970. I used to have that exact same problem. I installed the hotfix driver 53.38. Hasn't happened since (its been a week or maybe more). No crashes of any kind either.
I also flashed my bios to the latest version.
