The whole idea of being able to play as children makes me very uneasy.

Haurchy giving you a dissapointed look requires no context.
not much of a mind-breaker...seeing as how i've spent a good amount of my life around computers. Remember that games like second life and Mabinogi intentionally make it so you can literally do anything you want within the bounds of hardware and coding limitations. it's simply a matter of how far the devs and the playerbase are willing to take it.
if that's the direction Mabinogi's devs decided to take their game, then so be it. like you said it is impossible to completely get away from toxic elements of a community. hence why my original comment was non-serious, because this topic is non-serious (though people can and will take it seriously.)
seeing how the mods took down the last thread, it doesn't seem to be the way they want to take this game. Lore wise you could have children, and many games and anime have had the fate of a nation/planet/everything thrust upon the shoulders of some poor thirteen-year-old...i personally would rather shy away from that however.
lalafell clothing mostly does this already.
edit (ran out of posts)
without a doubt, just felt like pointing out the obvious for no particular reason whatsoever.Indeed, it does. However, This would mean creating character models, animations, and other outfits (or refitting lala outfits to child models) . It would be a lot of work, and I think that SE just wants to avoid any backlash that might cause children to be presented in an unacceptable manner in their game. They can even explain it with lore by saying the jobs are too complex for a child to comprehend, even one as gifted as the warrior of light.

Honestly, the expression aside I consider Haurchefant himself an answer to why we cannot/should not play children. There are young characters in other games but those games have scripts built around the idea. They would have to change dialogues for certain NPCs who interact with the Warrior of Light like a fellow adult. Haurchefant, for example, considers himself your comrade, an equal in age, and a good personal friend...sometimes more than that.

Very, very wrong.
FFXIV's content is Teen. That means the story and quests.
The fact it's online makes it "Not Rated", i.e. actually worse that AO.
