Also jobs will have gear specifically designed for them that cannot be worn by any other class or job.

truthfully... i think having jobs and classes will turn out to be one of the best ideas SE has ever done. If i want to solo I can use classes. But if i want to focus on being a great DD when no other worries then i can use my job.
Defined roles is what everyone asked for and SE is giving it to us while still keeping classes for certain stuff. This game is gonna be sick soon IMO.
And if you really want to get complex with the possibilities of this system look no further than this thread. Basically I've listed all the pre-released "rumored" classes as well as the released classes and this is how I hope the system fleshes out over a few years. With this in mind you would have a ton of awesome abilities and functions and really add dynamic to the class/job systems, imo.
Honestly, the jobs patch is the biggest patch I am waiting for, I think it will start the time when XIV becomes a threat to the other MMOs out there. (or so I hope ^_^)
I think I shouldn't play the game till patch 1.21 gets released! It is indeed going to be the best patch!
If you've played XIII, I like to think of jobs as kind of like Paradigms. Sets of skills that we'll be using specifically for one task alone, and in the future we'll be able to switch between different jobs to excell in individual areas.
Yes I played ffxiii but I don't think it will be similar to ffxiii where you can change jobs during battle. I think it will be more like ffxi.
You can change it on the fly but no while in combat (and their MIGHT be a cooldown between switching); Yoshi has already mentioned this in the Famitsu magazine.
in 11 it was just mooshing 2 classes together. in ffxiv it will not be that. it is like a specialized form of your current class with skills focused on party play.
what was in 11 is essentially already in 14 with the way you can moosh jobs together.
like my usage of moosh?
