While lorewise, cool (and kinda makes sense), the grind would be a major complaint form players. Since with the current system it is meant for you to use on GC (and if you lvl up more it is all for aesthetic and achivs). Also a lot of people are tied to one GC (Flames for life) and the idea of sellswording or switching for a job they want would turn a lot of people off. I think if they switched the system of GC's (for example be able to help a GC that is not my own) and unlock jobs that way or make switching easier on the player it might be a fun idea to put more relevance in GCs again. It might not be something they want to lock jobs behind.
