Holy mother of the twelve; I leave for one class and the thread degenerates. There has to be some psychological affinity, in some people, to picking apart under-articulated semantics unrelated to the central point and debating them as if they're evidence against the core argument. Give me a moment here, let's see if we can get this back on track.

No one claimed that EXP and Rank would not be shared by Classes and Jobs.
The point is that simply having a class that is currently as achieved as it can be does not mean you will be automatically handed a job that has been fully accomplished to the same point.

Let us remember a core behavior of MMO Players: If it's not cap, it's gimp.
    • Yes. Your Rank 50 Gladiator will become a "Rank 50" Paladin. With no skills, storyline completion, or benefits and/or specialized equipment/accessories provided by completing the 5 quests associated with them.
    • Yes. If basic combat is required on these quests, your Rank 50 job might very well tear through the first 3 with relative ease.
    • No. That doesn't make it too easy, too simple, or unrelated to your class.

Six months after jobs are instated, do you think the population of players in the game (easily represented by frequent forumgoers) will overlook the fact that you're a capped GLA who can't PLD? Hell no. Future players will not have the luxury you do of having a head start - when Rank 30 hits, they're gonna need to do their quest. It's not going to be easy.

What makes you think the quests are quick?
Jobs have been what we've been begging for to give "that Final Fantasy flair" to the game since day one. I don't think Team Yoshida believes they can ham-handedly throw them in without cutscenes and lore dependent on really hammering home that the JOBS are HERE and reconciling where the crap they've been this whole time. Our first experiences with them have to be intense, legit, and solid (read: long) or we're going to flood back in here bitching about how we got a spoonful instead of a kiddy-pool we can not only taste and eat, but rub all over ourselves and make asemic groans at while we tell the forums how "Meh, okay." it is.

EDIT: Actually, most of the things I was going to address have been put back on track by other members... that's a new experience for me, lol. Thank you for clearing up whatever ambiguity I'd left room for.

Glad to see someone had enough sense to make this post. Unfortunately Anonymoose, some people won't be happy until they have to pointlessly grind out another 1,782,150 SP on every single job.

For some people, that's actually the main focus of the game - grinding either with friends or to prove superiority and skill. They call it the "meat" of the game. I, myself, prefer actual progressive content, story, and lore to repetitive tasks that make a counter go up - but to each their own.

@Konachibi You're totally right. I was thinking, like, since Alchemist turns all of the plants and saps into oils and syrups, he might evolve into a pasta ... something. Idk WHERE I was going with that. I'll change it immediately. (What? Anonymoose? Admit he's wrong when faced with convincing contradictory evidence solidly aimed at a clear topic of contention? WHO DOES THAT?)

@DNO I appreciate your efforts, I promise, lol. Usually by Page 15 of threads like these, the "wobble" of the subject gets to a steady spin and everyone starts arguing about something else. By this time 10 pages form now, we'll be arguing over whether or not Patch Notes break the Immersion of Exploring Recently Added Content by Giving the Casuals Handholding Hints or some bullsh!t like that.

You're trolling me on purpose because of that whole "makes me want to beat you until it causes hydrogen fusion" comment, aren't you.

    Classes are weapon proficiency.
In FFXI, you could skill up your polearm so your SAM would be invited to bird parties. You weren't required to be a Dragoon. In FFXIV, you will be able to master the abilities of the Axe so you can use abilities of axe proficiency, such as Bloodletter II+, on Pugilist. That doesn't mean you have to be a Warrior.

Therefore, jobs are the true form of classes and require dedication.
Dedication is often shown through work such as grinding, or when we've already done grinding and are f**king sick of it, a series of quests featuring lore about your favorite jobs, how they fit into the world, and the bonuses that come with mastering them.

Here's a better metaphor for what you're trying to say

Any man can learn karate, but it takes time, loyalty and dedication to become a black belt in karate.

So in FFXIV version it would be:

Any marauder can swing an axe, but it takes time, quests and dedication to become a warrior of the axe.

That's good, too! Thanks for that. Hold on, let me try:

    [Adopts Kung-fu voice]
Any man can play the bow. It has only one string. Only through dedication, time, and trials can one learn to play many strings like the barcher...

(Sorry, lol. I'm not going to go out and say I believe wholeheartedly that it's a bowharp, but I love when a maybe gets responded to with "DEFINITELY NO!" on subjection.)

I just had an ingenious thought about that!

What if the bow actually straightens instead of folds up, then the archer turns it the other way around, then they become a Guitarcher!
