Chocobo Keeps Turning the Wrong Color?

Good morning everyone! Hope all is well. I had an issue with coloring my chocobo I was hoping maybe someone could help me with.

So I've had my Snow White chocobo for a long time now, and I felt it was time for a change. I decided I wanted more of a "natural' color, and also one that was close to the Pokémon Pidgeotto, so decided try and change from Snow White to Cork Brown.

After googling how to making this happen, I came across the most popular result which was a "Chocobo Color Calculator". After inputting my current and desired colors, it told me to feed my chocobo X-amounts of specific fruits in an alternating order and I would get my desired color.

So that's what I did. While feeding I gave it one of each fruit in order, then started the pattern over after the third fruit was consumed until they were all gone in one feeding. Unfortunately, the next morning my chocobo was NOT Cork Brown, but Cactuar Green! Frustrated, I thought, "okay, maybe I screwed up a fruit somewhere and didn't realize...so let's try again". I looked up the same site, attempted to go from Cactuar Green to Cork Brown....and 6 hours later I'm looking at a "Millioncorn Yellow"....

So can anyone give me some advice here? Or maybe at least a better website to use? I'm really wanting to get this thing the right color, but I hate having to waste SO much time and effort into these mistakes.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Chocobo dying has some RNG involved. You can follow any guide you want. Sometimes it'll actually work, sometimes it wont.

Took me longer than all my friends to get my soot black chocobo, and we all tried the same method at the start.

Well that's a tad disheartening haha. I guess it's to be expected in such a heavily RNG based game! Suppose that can't be helped. I appreciate the response though!

I used the same site and got my desired colour on the third attempt so maybe it will be the same case? Yellow is at least closer to brown than green so I would'n loose my hope and try more

I may do that! It's funny you mention that because that's the exact thing I told my friend last night when we were waiting to see how it would turn out..."well at least yellow is a hell of a lot closer than GREEN..." Maybe 3rd time will be the charm!

Also, I want to confirm that I'm feeding them in the right order. So this is just an example:

Say I have to give them x4 Plums, x12 Pineapples, and x12 Valfruits. In one feeding, I give 1 plum, then 1 pineapple, then one valfruit, then start pattern over at plum, repeating until all plums are gone, then alternating the remaining pineapples and valfruits. That's how I understood you were supposed to do it, but I just wanted to confirm.

I got my desired color on the first shot. What I did in the case of fruits like that, I mixed the low number of fruits(the plums) into the others evenly. So I alternated pineapples and valfruits and tried to evenly disperse the plums through that. So 1 plum every 3 rotations or so.

The thing is that the fruits adjust a RGB scale and if you cap out on a color, the fruit is essentially being wasted, which is why they suggest you try and alternate them a good bit. That might help some if you evenly space things out more.

Well the good thing is that according to the Calculator, all I need to get from "Millioncorn Yellow" to "Cork Brown" is 1x Valfruit, 2x Doman Plums, and 4x O'Ghomoro Berries....so only 7 fruits vs the 28 I fed him last time. Haha. So I guess I'd distribute them as 1 Valfruit-->2 Berries--> 1 Plum--> 2 Berries---> 1 Plum ?

The better method is to feed on % of total on individual fruit to avoid maxing or mining out, so ideally for this set
    Pine > val > pine > val> plum > pine > val > (repeat)

I would advice feeding oghmoro berries till the first new feather message and wait to see what you get.

While microfeeding is good to go fast to the other end of colour map, fine tuning is better done colour by colour. There used to be a colour map around here somewhere...

    Edit:
Found it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...obo-Dyeing-Map. I have a very mutilated version of this for my private use that has more links, but my chocobo still has not been all colours
