I Think I finally know what it is

After careful consideration, A heavy dose of Mathematics, Scientific Method, and a dose of life experience I have finally figured out what is wrong with FFXIV.

    Nothing. It is my peers.

Since when did Gamers become so entitled?

I Remember a time when a Gamer loved actual exploration. The amount of work it took to discover game mechanics and solve the best ways to clear them.

I Remember a time when Gamers loved Quests, Loved lore and character progression. A Time when all classes where picked and played. Not because of their 1337 damages or because a specific class guaranteed a spot in a raid, But because they genuinely felt connected to that class and playstyle.

No patch could Destroy their class, no rebalance could Undue them, because they essentially where that character. When hard raids were released guilds would form and attempt time and time again, until mechanics were figured out and plans were made.

But now, people expect to buy level capped character. To have within the first week a fully geared character with which to do what?

It simply amazes me how many people can honestly stand here and call themselves "Gamers".

Yet they do not enjoy any of the content they experience. Never satisfied unless it is instant gratification. Unwilling to see the larger picture, nor try for themselves to see what is fun.

Only expecting Numbers, numbers and more numbers to satisfy their need for incessant and pointless debate. Unwilling to attempt on their own that which they allow OTHERS to dictate what is and is not viable.

The most disgusting part is that it happens in a game that was designed (successfully mind you) in a manor where none of that is even Necessary.

It is my opinion that save for a few bugs which all games have, that there is nothing wrong with this game which warrants the amount of crying I Have seen here daily.
No, I believe that my peers have a strong since of entitlement. That somehow they deserve max level and easy content. That they do not need to progress their characters themselves.

    What happened to real gamers?

A True gamer doesn't need to buy gil from a gold seller. He will earn it himself.
A True gamer will Maximize his character on his own. He does not need others opinions to utilize his own character.
A True gamer immerses himself into the Magic of the world. BUT also helps make the world immersive for others.

Anyway, all of the elitism is unwarranted. It isn't as if everyone here is PVPing to compete for openworld Raid bosses or anything like that. Heck, most of us don't even pvp.

I agree, with pretty much all your points... but this is the new age. The games you and I like aren't popular anymore. Everyone wants mindless trash like Call of Duty, they don't want innovation... they don't want challenge, they don't want anything that makes them feel stupid or incapable. If they can't beat it (even if others can) then its unfair or just too hard. Instead of accepting that maybe they're doing it wrong, or that they are the ones who are the problem, not the game... they complain and rage that its just too darn hard. People don't like challenge because it will just make them feel dumb or inadequate when they lose. they want nice, safe, easy games that they can win with minimal thought and effort.

Its just what games are today. Its okay they like different things, just like we like different things. They're not bad people for enjoying things we don't like, in fact its okay because fun is subjective...

The thrill of exploring, the idea of trial and error, learning from your mistakes, or simply learning how to do something difficult... and the thrill of overcoming a real challenge. Todays kids don't want it. I mean games like Dark Souls exist for people like us but the exploring element of games, the genuine, fair but difficult challenge. Its not what sells. We simply will not get an MMO that appeals to the small audience of people who might enjoy figuring out how things work or doing a dungeon/raid that isn't a straight line.

They turned into people like you. People who tell others how to play the game they bought with their own money. They turned into people so cynical that they literally left the one thing off from being a real "Gamer" that actually makes you a gamer.

    They play games.

Yah, f**k him for suggestion people might make the game world a better place for everyone by helping others enjoy a game!

    Oh wait.......................

No but really, its okay to like different things and everyones entitled to their opinion!

It should be added for OP, FFXIV does a good job at create challenge in stuff like Coil Savage, it has those challenges for people who want them, it just doesn't reward them (lol titles), so it really is just for the thrill of overcoming a challenge. I can appreciate that too.

I agree with you op a 110%. These type of gamers need to learn that the grass is never greener on the side of self entitlement. Tbh these gamers aren't even gamers to begin with. They are just whiny babies that never out grew their cradle. They need to learn also to grow up.

There's nothing about him, or you, or me, that makes ANY of us more of a "True Gamer" than anyone else. Let people play the game how -they- want to, so long as it does not encroach on -your- fun.

Not everyone plays for the same reason. Not everyone is going to play FFXIV because they love the story. Some will play it because they love the combat system. Some will play it because it's a passing trend for them - they'll get to 60, then move on to the next buzz-MMO that they can find to satiate their need for an MMO. Others still will play because they find the crafting fun.

None of this has to do with being a gamer. Do you know what all these people had in common? It has nothing to do with this romanticized version of "Magic" of the wrold.

They all played the game. They are all gamers. And you or I are no better than anyone else here. We're equals.

This is so subjective that it's almost pointless to even bring up. How people enjoy the game totally effects how I enjoy the game and how the game will develope towards systems that I enjoy rather than ones I abhore.

You can't just pull a "It don't effect you" card without actually realizing that's one of the most flawed arguments to exist.

While the current generation of gamers may have differing values than I do in design it doesn't mean there isn't room for both in the game, sadly it's obviously skewed to one crowd.
