Can somebody confirm if yak milk is obtainable via retainer?

According to this http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Yak_Milk, supposedly, it is... however, I asked a guy from my static and he claimed Yak Milk wasn't on his hunting list despite having his retainer at level 60 (not sure if he's serious or trolling me xD).

Could somebody clarify? I'm pretty interested in this ingredient because it's asked in so many culinarian recipes and killing wooly yaks is eternal.

Yes you can get Yak Milk via the hunting missions. I have done that many times with my battle retainer.

They really shouldn't have drop rates on mobs that are so low that retainer ventures become the preferred method of farming. This was one of the first things I was concerned with when they mentioned 3.0 having tougher enemies. Lower drop rates, larger health pools, more ingredients needed to craft a single item. I can't wait for the inevitable buff to drop rates, like we got a year into 2.x.

Yep I have it on both my MRD & GLD retainers. It's level 51.

I hope it remains as it is. It's far, far better than items being worth less than a hundred gil each since they're so ridiculously common. It also serves to make retainer ventures profitable - I've been sending mine off to acquire a specific item that sells for quite a bit on my server and the income is pretty decent.

My retainer brings jack's milk but seems not happy for that!

I like the current drop rates. Retainer ventures shouldn't be just "level to cap and send the only use of you is to find rare drops". Consistent money earners should be an equally good choice.

I'm speaking from the perspective of someone leveling leatherworking, and it takes 15 minutes of farm to get enough skins to make a single piece for a level 50 leve that requires 9 pieces. I don't want to finance your entire housing ward just to level a single profession. And your retainers (which can be bought with real money) shouldn't be a significant source of gil income, because that is literally pay to win.

People should make bank on endgame gear, not leveling components. That is why hippogryph skin drop rates were never changed in 2.x, while aldgoat, toadskin, and boarskin were buffed substantially.

the 2 free retainer are enough to give one of them a battle class to bring you milk and skins.
Or make a 2nd character to get 2 extra free retainers.
