More newbie doubts (and a little venting)

Ok I started playing FFXIV 2 weeks ago. The first thing I've noticed is that you cannot jump. Ppl tell me that jumping is useless on this game and in fact it is... but I do think it would feel more ''realistic'' if weren't forced to stay grounded (besided that, I think i have some kind of OCD with jumping, I like to walk and jump... yeah yeah I'm hyper), but anyways, reading around I've realized I'm not the only person who wishes they could jump on FFXIV, and I even saw a topic with some random guy saying that SE will probably release a jump feature in near future but as a skill, not as a fun/OCD feature
So my first question is: What about the jump feature? What's real and what's not? Will it ever be implemented? When? How?

Second is: Allright, so I've finished all my 8 limited levequests and my gquests what to do now to level up (the city quests are only good for money, not for exp, since the gain is minimal)???
Am I forced to grind to death?

Seriously, I like this game, I really do... but It doesn't really feel like a MMO. It looks more like a console casual game. The shortcuts are bizarre, the distance between places is huge, you can't jump and you can't even level up w/o grinding (I head there were even a fatigue system before... jesus, those times should have been terrible).

The third, and perhaps more important question os all is: in future patches at least some of these "problems" wil be fixed?

I won't stop playing, like I said, depite the problems, I still like it. But I wanna have some hope that things will eventually get better

    Thank you!

Grinding is a proud tradition from the FFXI days, so there will always be grinding. Actually, when the experience chains are released, which will be in the next major patch a week from today iirc, grinding with a (good) party should be the best experience per hour yield, with doing guildleves in a small group a close second.

There has been a jump feature discussed and seriously considered in past dev posts, but there are some challenges integrating it with the game world (height differences, zone edges, aesthetics). I haven't heard anything on it for a while, but 'Jump' is traditionally a move used by Dragoons (a job which Lancer will be able to unlock).

I think they are changing the frequency of leves. 10 every 12 hours (dont quote me on it), we can do all DoL DoH or fighting leves if we want, not just 8 craft and 8 gather/fight, and we will be able to bank them up to 99. As for jumping, if the make or break for a game is jumping then your standards for mmo's seems to be a bit low, but I guess that's why you are playing XIV in its current state lol.

questio one, jump question, if i'm right the jump ability will be a move used by dragoon's when they bring out the new job's, so you still won't be jump around all hyper while you run (if that's your biggest gripe with the game i would say its not that big a problem)

question two, grinding is good come on man what's up with grinding. but when you get bored of grinding, get a group and go behest, behests start every half hour in camps and you and your group will chase down large group's of mob's, and when you have killed them there is a boss or two to kill.

question three, sorry mate my crystal ball is broken

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

    1) Jump, Devs said they will look into it.

    2) The game is designed to be played in groups with soloing for those with limited time. So if you try to solo everything you will burn through all the non-world mob grind content in a few hours (which is how long it was designed to last for soloing). To truly play the game you have to group up with other people. More leves that way, and the ability to make decent sp/hr on world mobs. XIV is not a quest based leveling game.

    3) You are essentially playing an early beta, the changes from the next 2-3 patches are going to more or less reshape the game in its entirety. from 1.18 to 1.21 the focus of the game, the leveling system, the world, the battle system, the class system, the crafting system, and the job system are being completely changes or heavily modified. Although most people do not if you really want to know what XIV will be like you have look way down the road, probably the beginning of next year. Because the XIV of today is going to die, the devs are making sure of that by basically redoing the whole game.

More to the question they said they will add alot more quest, new elements, and expand on existing elements in future patches.

You can get a blurred vision of the future by reading all the dev trackers and dev letter you can get the sense of everything that is going to change and happen.

    Welcome to the game!
So my first question is: What about the jump feature? What's real and what's not? Will it ever be implemented? When? How?
Yes, it appears that it will be implemented. In a recent interview (I believe in Famitsu magazine, which was translated to English by the inimitable Reinhart and posted on these forums), they indicated that they're working on implementing jump. However, the only "function" currently associated with jumping is that it cancels a spell that you're in the middle of casting. Other than that, it's a purely cosmetic/stylistic change, so that people won't feel so attached to the ground. Which sounds like it's just what you're looking for.

Second is: Allright, so I've finished all my 8 limited levequests and my gquests what to do now to level up (the city quests are only good for money, not for exp, since the gain is minimal)???
Am I forced to grind to death?
Not necessarily. Every 36 hours, you can do 8 regional (battle) leves, and 8 local (crafting) leves. So it sounds like you can still do more leves of the local/crafting variety.

Other than leves, you can also grind, which right now gives pretty good SP per hour, especially if you're in a party.

If you don't want to grind, you can also do side quests, main storyline quests, and job quests (which become available from the respective job guilds in each city at level 20). At level 22, you can also start doing quests for the Grand Companies of Eorzea in each city. The entrance to the Grand Companies of each city is located in the same place as you'd enter the Market Wards. Talk to the NPCs in there, and they'll give you quests to become a recruit in the Grand Companies. (Right now, you can do all 3 cities.)

Once you become a recruit, beginning at level 25, you can also start doing the lower level dungeon: Toto-Rak. The mobs in there give good SP, and the drops are good for mid-level jobs. But until Oct 4, you'll need a party of 4 to enter Toto-Rak.

the distance between places is huge
You know you can teleport, right? Once you've touched an aetheryte, you can simply teleport back to it at any time through your main menu.
    you can't jump
Like I said, they're planning to implement this at some point.
you can't even level up w/o grinding
    Sure you can.
The third, and perhaps more important question os all is: in future patches at least some of these "problems" wil be fixed?
Which "problems"? I can't promise that everything you think is a "problem" will be addressed, but they're working to address many of the issues people have with the game, both large and small.

Like I said, jump will be implemented at some point. They're working to increase the amount of content. For example, the next patch will apparently include a lower level dungeon, caravan security missions for the Grand Companies, supply/replenish missions for the Grand Companies, some "leve" type things for the Grand Companies, and an Ifrit battle. The next patch will also include chocobos and airships, so you can travel around more quickly and easily.

This patch (1.19) and the next (1.20) are primarily going to be focused on fixing the battle system. But obviously, they'll also include content. And once the battle system is fixed, they're going to start coming out with content more quickly. So it's a work in progress.

Hope you continue to have fun.

It's true man. It depresses me every day to know this game is in this state, but I have no delusions about it. I can only pray that maybe in the next patch, two or maybe even three that things balance out. But I'm not counting on it... Peace out fellow XIV players, I wish the best for us all.

VydarrTyr and Xatsh, thanks a lot for your comments. Now I feel more hopefull... I used to play another MMO wich is 6 years old right now and I remember at the begning it was much different from it is now (now it's a loooooooooot better). I hope the same is going to happen with FFXIV. If you guys are right (fingers crossed), I think until next year the game will be very different... starting with next patch on Oct, with the chocobos.
Well, thanks everyone and do you know anything about the hairstyles i mentioned above?
