how to level a second class/job on same character?

    Good morning,

Before logging out this morning for work I switched to my level 1 and I only had 1 level 5 quest in 3 different map areas. So my question is how exactly do you level up a 2nd class/job on a character?

Do I level up basically through just fates and once I can do dungeons I spam that until max level?

What would be the basic steps for 1-60 on a new class/job please. I'm looking for any ways to level up the fastest possible way. So I am prepared once I hit level 60 on my ninja please

I'm going assume you mean unlocking a new class (Not DRK/AST/MCH)
Your first step is the Hunting Log. Completing these along with clearing any FATEs you come across should push you up to level 15.
If you find yourself short a bit, do the Guildhests and Levequests. Guildhests especially because each class gets a large bonus to EXP upon first completion.
Post level 15, you have two choices. The first is the (IMO Sensible) running of Dungeons. Dungeons give quite a lot of EXP once you factor in the 100% Armory Bonus for having a class at level cap.
The second choice is FATEs. Endless FATEs.
The better choice is to do a mixture of FATEs and Hunting Logs while queuing for Dungeons.
Don't forget to run your Daily Roulette for the large chunk of EXP there.

And finally, don't try to rush to cap in a day. Just take your time and cruise. The 'grind' doesn't feel quite so bad when you're relaxing.

Unfortunately the rested exp bonus is going to evaporate just after a few levels. It scales horribly imho with the earlier levels. Also if your in a FC could ask them to put up the exp buff during combat, it will help. Also you could throw in some cheap food for another 3% bonus exp. The rest of what Sylve said is pretty spot on. FATEs, Dungeons, and possibly Leve's if you have no use for them besides this.

Remember the weekly challenge log too! It gives a bunch of EXP. From 1 to 15 you can di levequests. Always food and if you can ask for the Company Action "Heat of Battle II" to stay up. Every five levels do the class/job quest.

Your most efficient path is going to be FATEs untill like.. 53? I haven't really worked out the best way to do HW levelling yet.

For a basic guide to the standard 1-60 if you want to go through it fast is:

1-7 - Hunting log, pick up any fates you see in passing.
8-14 - Western Thanalan FATEs. Leves, and leftover quests you have.
15-18/19 (Don't remember when optimal level to switch here is) - Western La Noscea FATEs
    20-27 - South Shroud
28-33 - Eastern La Noscea. Focus on Costa side but try to convince your party to TP over to other side for Wineport FATEs too, you'll get through this bit nearly twice as fast if you do.
34-41 - Coerthas Central Highlands. Around this point you'll want to get into the habit of FATE hopping because the crowd is a lot bigger. Get a feel for how much you need for gold on a FATE (especially boss FATEs yield you no benefit to stay as long as possible) then head to others if you are seeing people starting them. The crowd is simply too big to stay controlled, and you'll miss out on FATEs entirely if you don't.
42-52 - Northern Thanalan. Because Heavensward FATEs are mostly terrible right now (expect 50+ to change in coming patches)
53-60 Dungeon. Lots and lots of dungeons.

Not the only way to do it, but it is the fastest.
Edit: And don't solo FATEs. Get a full on FATE group if you want to FATE grind, even if you're getting gold solo you're missing out on a lot of kill EXP from low damage and lack of tags. On that point, tagging mobs is significantly more useful to your group's (and thereby your own) exp than actually just hitting mobs in general. And having the map up on your screen zoomed out just to keep track of if people are doing multiple FATEs simultaneously is helpful too.

    Thank you Malusion.

As for the dungeon parts I forgot to ask all of you. As a DPS what queue up method is the best? After I completed all the daily duty queues. Is it better to queue up for dungeons my level or the random duty roulette?

The EXP bonus is only for the daily roulette, so after you've gotten the roulette bonus queue for specific dungeons, as the highest level one you can do will give significantly more kill / completion EXP.

Rested EXP bonus makes little sense when across classes. At level 59 if you have a full bar of rested exp it would be over a million rested EXP, but then if you switch your class to a level 1 you only have like 100 rested exp.

1 level at 59 does not equal 1 level at 1.

In my opinion this should be solved by every class having their own rested exp. Gaining a level of rested on 1 class does not transfer over when switching classes.

Edit: As in you would have to be that class and logged off to gain rested exp for only that class.

Fates, levequest, challenge log, dungeons, and guildheist( until lvl 40) should help you. Once you get to lvl 40, just go to NT. and spam fates until you are high enough to do HW dungeons( for tank and healer), if you are lvling a dps class, stay in NT until lvl 60
