Anyone else underwhelmed by the new DX 11 graphics?

The only one I turn on is HBAO+(Standard) and reflections - the latter is a mixed bag; looks nice in some places, odd in others (e.g. the rusted metal on the ground at Limsa Lominsa).

Parallax Occlusion implemented isn't particularly robust - e.g. on rocks which can have odd angled surfaces you sometimes get "ripples".

    Water Tessellation ...

    Was expecting,

You can't be serious in expecting water effects like that to be this game let alone an MMO. That's utter nonsense. The amount of lag produced from generating the waves alone would make you want to off yourself.

If you want to make the game prettier and more defined there is SweetFX. Unless you're running a hardcore rig, you're going to get massive FPS drops and overall a horrible experience if you want to come even remotely close to that (which you wont)

besides I like how calm and clear the water is. Seeing the Batman waves is off putting to me personally.

OK, Batman might be a bit much.

However I was expecting at least Assassin's Creed: Black Flag level of water,

    https://youtu.be/ymYkqEKmqNU?t=9m7s

I mean how old is that game?

Heck here is the PS3 version,

Seriously, the water looks better with tessellation off than on with those artifacts (as shown in the posted picture).

You are literally comparing a single player game with VERY minimal variables that plays on tracks to a MMO with thousands of players doing any number of things.

A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere.

No offense but it's 2015. Is there a single person left in the world that isn't running at True Color (24/32 bit)? O_o

Black Flag is pretty sandbox if I'm right.

Not to mention other MMOs can do water without weird artifacts.

Seriously, GTA V on the PS3 has better looking water than FFXIV on my mid-range PC.

Archeage has some wonderful water effects... too bad the rest of the game is kinda awful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTyroE2DqxY - Water effects and glitchy glitchy ships spining like a blender.

You can't expect an MMO to look anywhere near on par with a AAA game, due to the fact that it takes a hell of a lot more power to run an MMO on any system than it does to run a singleplayer/co-op game. But you're comparing it to a game that has pirate based combat in mind, to an MMO where you can't even get in water.

I did wish they'd add HD textures though, the textures in this game are just downright disgusting at points, could be called pixel art.

No excuse for that weird looking water though.

Personally I think it's bugged. Seems like a waste of polygons cramping them together like that - for a fairly hideous looking effect too.

I think what you took was also a bad screenshot too. You do not stare directly down at water, usually you are standing on the edge of a beach as you look at the water or standing it in in the Sea Of Clouds.

Your screenshot has no context, and you are basing an argument around it.

Here (open it in it's own window, it's 1080p)

I believe this is a fairly normal position to stand at and that water doesn't look natural.
