Fortunately I can certainly relate the chibi characters with that of XIV's chibi-hyurs and the like, so it certainly makes sense to have similar weapons around in both games.
The problem isn't the origins of the design.
OMG you just reminded me female Hyurs have 'the mikuru run' (Mikuru is the one with orange hair)
I'm..... gonna go roll a Hyur now.... >.>'

The elaborate style of the weapons. Really similar to every 3D FF titles thats come out aside from XI, maybe XII, and XIII.

FFXI was my first reall MMO and the one i played the longest by far, but i never for the life of me could figure out where the design team got its aesthetic.Aw you know what I mean:

FFXI overall to this day does not look like a Final Fantasy title to me. FFXI is the most subdued game out of the entire franchise.
according to concept art even the earliest final fantasies incorporated more visual ideas than FFXI.
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
I always thought XIII did have elaborate styles. I mean, look at Lightnings sword o nthe front case, or the motorbike the Shiva sisters transform into. they're pretty flashy looking bits of hardware.Aw you know what I mean:

They're elaborate, but they dont have bright glowing or crystal sections. Imo the stuff looks closer to what we saw with Amano art back in the day.
