It's not that there's a problem with any of this content(I think it's all great) as much as it's a problem with the inconsistent story-telling. All of a sudden, a massively huge game-changing system(materia and jobs) are introduced out of nowhere through some random character or group of characters who "brought the secrets of a forbidden art back to Eorzea"? There's only so many times you can rely on that plot device before it becomes non-nonsensical and dumb(that number is zero times btw), and I can't really see how they're going to introduce something huge like jobs without taking a chainsaw to the already established lore. I'll be the first to admit that I don't play Final Fantasy games strictly for the story as I love intricate game systems, but a dyslexic story in any medium should be jarring as hell to anybody.
the goblin bringing it makes sense, since goblins just started to appear again. Jobs will probably be explained through their respected quests and companies or guilds. I do not see how those are lore breaking. Your problem is you got in before these major changes. Think of the new people they are hoping to capture when they join it (should) make perfect sense in-game
