If you go for over-the-top art style, then you should have over-the-top weapons.

This game is realistic, classy, and consistency would be nice. BUT HEY DEY LOOK AWSUM WOAH I hope they call them EPIX

ugh with that example I see where your fear's lie... omg that is so ugly... but I think they can give it a sense of Ifrit without making it gaudy.
