That is pretty much the point that seems to bug a lot of people. You have to stop and cast now on BRD. You can't move or it interrupts you---so in that respect it very much is like a BLM, WHM, SMN--any casting job that has a casting bar that can be interrupted by movement and thus nullifies your damage output in that instance.

BLM is also convenient for demonstrations in that it also got a sort of stance-dance mechanic added as well---but in contrast it wasn't a gimmick that sort of re-wrote the mechanics of the job. The new "stance" for BLM was a straight modifier to it's damage output--with really no strings attached other than the timer and it enables higher tiered spells of the same elements we've always used before. It doesn't really affect how we play the job other than making us focus more on our rotation. We don't have to discern/fret if we can cast now or wait to do it later--at least not any more than we always had to in the past. That is just second-nature to playing a BLM at this stage of the game. What they have done to BRD is force it to start thinking along those terms now---to think and play like a BLM when WM is up.

That is NOT what many people signed on to BRD for, and that is likely a large part of the backlash. Won't lie...the casting time does irk me a bit. But what really sticks in my craw is how I have yet to see it really pay off for me. One shouldn't have to level up and unlock additional skills to start reaping the benefits of a skill intended to trade off a core mechanic of the job (ability to strafe/run-and-gun at the drop of a hat when needed) for the promise of dramatically increasing one's DPS. There should be a pay off right away....and there doesn't appear to be a substantial enough payoff until you further develop the job.

I have experience with this stuff and just wait until we get more and more "haste." Youll love BRD.

Black mage here. I wish I got a massive boost in exchange for having 1.5s cast times. Heck I'd just settle for the 1.5s cast times. >_>

Only if you throw in the very best in group support, an amazing jacket model, and armor that's reinforced tissue paper instead of tissue paper. Really, though. I wish I only lost 30% bonus damage when I have to remain in motion for awhile.

Very helpful... I'm sure you're proud. All I'm asking is... who else has a total mobility option that only renders them 30% less effective aside from the bards with guns? Maybe I am missing the point but it just doesn't seem like the end of the world everyone is making it out to be. Every class changed. Everyone has to learn new tricks.

BRD can't do damage at all while in WM and moving--so in that regard you are on equal footing with a casting class. Remember.. WM disables auto attacks. Aside from applied DoT's, the ONLY way you do damage is from your weapon skills when WM is up---which now have casting timers that require you to stop moving to fire them off.

It isn't 30% less effective. It can completely stop damage output where it previously did not---and some players don't appear to be seeing a dramatic enough increase to warrant it's use until the job's kit is complete (or at least progress it considerably further towards 60). People have not been seeing a large enough increase in output for justification until the job is considerably more developed, and even that has been questioned as well (still haven't seen a comprehensive analysis between long-standing rotations and WM use, even at level 60).
