Communication is scary in this game..what with people quick to get on the offensive..

On my first time tanking Haukke (never tanked in any other MMO, btw), I sent this into the chat, hoping to be polite and inform people that I'm new: "Hi, it's my first time tanking and I'm still learning, so please have some patience and follow the numbers. I'll try my best!" - for some reason the healer got upset saying I was level 28 and I should know how to tank already. I didn't respond to him, not wasting my time. Then the archer started running first and pulling mobs. I got the attention back with 1 Provoke and Shield Lob, and was about to start flashing to build up my aggro when the healer said "USE ONLY FLASH FOR MOBS, FLASH" to wich I responded "If the archer do not pull, I will use it". The archer said he was ok with that, but the healer pulled another group saying "If the tank don't pull, I will". I was mad, very mad, but I only replyed "Bye then" and left. I got lots of crafting to do so 30 minutes is nothing for me to avoid this type of thing.

Sorry for the long text, I just wanted to share it.

After that incident, I queued again and got a great party. I didn't lose aggro, no one died and it was a slightly fast run, wich is good for a newbie tank I think.
Basic tanking skills are more of a "progressive" effort. Each dungeon, the encounters will need to be approached in a different way. Even for dungeons you've already done lots of, wanderers will change the way you approach an encounter they are about to encroach upon(Aurum Vale's first room I like to think is the best example of this). As a new tank first time ever, this I find to be the hardest part of the learning process, and some people don't understand this if they've never tanked before(that healer).

I have two thoughts on speedruns as a newly hit 50.

1.) If i go to wanderers palace or the later dungeons, i HATE speedruns. I have no idea what's going on, struggle to keep up and don't get to learn very well. I feel way more likely to die/wipe us this way.
2.) If i get brayflox or haukke manor in the roulette, i HATE tanks full clearing and picking up every chest. I just wanna get out and get my bonuses.

So I see both sides of the argument

It's about what the team wants and can handle. As a tank I will conform to that but I'm not picking mobs off of you if you are pulling them unless it's genuinely an accident. A decent dps should have little issue solo zerging a mob anyhow with mitigation cooldowns if they know their rotation. Any DPS complaining that they died because they pulled ahead of the tank and couldn't kill the enemy before it killed them is just a bad dps flat out. Often times I may not pull that extra group because I'm low on TP or healer is low on MP and adding that strain will be a wipe. There are other things to consider besides "your time" when in a group of four people and as someone who typically does duties with friends (we are civil and will help you) but if you want to be a child about it you can go sit in queue again because I have no issue kicking someone. Make sure you spell my last name right in the report <3

If a tank wipes us pulling too much, I definitely don't get mad. Good on you for pushing yourself. You're trying to improve everyone in the group.

If you pull one pack at a time, I will pull for you, tank things myself, and eventually initiate a vote kick.

We as a community need to breed better players. The average skill level of ffxiv players is horrifyingly low. Pushing yourself is the only way to improve.

This is a game meant to be playable by hardcore and casual gamers, so skill level will vary greatly. There's not a problem with that. And vote kick? Vote kick because a tank is playing in a normal way? People really seem to have completely lost the sense of respect in this game.

Personally i'd rather a slow run with no deaths than a 'speed run' where some mongo tries to pull every monster and wipes party because they didn't even bother to do some tests with first few groups to see how group could handle.Speed runs are the cancer of Dungeons in this game.People in high level gear need to start accepting that just because they are overgeared for the dungeon doesn't mean the rest of the party is.
Not just that.It breeds a dumb attitude to new players who won't know any better and thinks it's ok to run like this too.
Guess what happens. That new player you guys just taught to speed run with your high geared bang now thinks this is the norm. And tries what your party did with other new undergeared players leading to wipes and flaming each other.

When I hit 51 with my main job (AST) I tried DV. Our tank pulled every single mob (and he was with the lastest gear), we wiped 2 times even that I said "pull one group per time" after this he and the other dps quited our duty and I had to ask a friend to come as tank 'cause I know he won't pull everyone in one time. I was learning DV and how to play AST in dungeons/raids since I just played on fates and main/side quests.

You are exactly what is wrong with this community.
You first of all do not need to "breed better players". You need to learn some respect and decensy and perhaps learn a thing or two.
People play a game to have fun, and not have some punk like yourself dictate them how they are supposed to be playing a game.
