    Speed Runs Suck

I just started FFXIV a few months ago. I am a casual player. I prefer to tank or heal. I now Q as DPS because of speed runs.

    Speed Runs Suck
I don't get to learn the fights.
When tank I spend the whole run fighting for aggro.
When heals I spend the whole run panicking.
When DPS I just hope I'm not mucking anything up.

    To avoid this...
When tank I say that I'm new.
When heals I say that I'm new and when the tank pulls to much I ask that he pull less.
When DPS I flail along til the boss and ask if there's anything I need to do.

This has not been working, and I would like to tank more.

I have just been avoiding random Q's: but, sometimes I need a run for the main quest line. I am looking for suggestions about how to address these issues in a way that will work. I am not used to the arbitrary hate of new players that I have been experiencing in FFXIV, so I assume that there is something I am doing wrong when approaching the issue.

Go tank and don't speed run then. I just started tanking when dark knight came and I didn't do any speed runs while leveling. No one said a word about it. If they did, I would have just ignored them. You are the tank. You get to control the pace.

I really don't understand the complaint. If you are tanking, why are you pulling more than you can handle and then complaining about it? Ignore trolls and do it your way.

My issue has been DPS (and the occasional healer) pulling mobs on their own.

If they do that, just let them die, and be like "oh I thought you wanted to tank since you were pulling".

But personally as a Tank I dont mind speed runs IF I see that people are geared enough and that we have good AOE DPS in the group.

I mean if I you get Brayflox in High Duty roulette, with 2 BLM and/or SMN, nothing wrong with a 10 min run for the quick and easy law, not to mention an easy 3 commends.

Tanking is a job, DPSing is a science and Healing is an art.
If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

    you know what really sucks

not being able to do any dps because your tank thinks tanking is like riding on a fucking carousel

it kind of takes all the complexity out of it when you can pull like 8 things pop a few cds and hit one button for the next minute

I don't understand this mentality. I want to get in and out as fast as possible. I've done the dungeon multiple times and i'm just there for the reward. Hell in most other games that isn't even speed running, that's standard operating procedure. Speedrunning (the way I know it) is skipping everything that skippable (not that applicable to FF these days), pulling as much trash as can handle, and ideally the boss too and blowing everything up.

That's my preference. If I get a slow tank i'll suck it up, but you (not a personal attack) annoy me just as much as I annoy you.

I just let them die if they are pulling intentionally and not just standing too far out and getting aggro from wandering mobs. I'm kind of an ahole though. I've also been letting MCHs tank if they use that skill to push mobs away from the group. Those are the two things that annoy me. I've actually found it interesting that none of these people have said anything after I do that.

You don't learn anything and you increase the dungeon time by pulling 1 to 2 groups at a time. Tanks still struggle for hate because certain classes will and have to mutlidot/aoe and if they dont they arent playing their class or the dungeon takes 30min longer. If a tank grabs 1 pack and doesn't have any issues holding hate I'll begrudgingly pull through the dungeon, I will only step in if the healer wants to, a Blm can handle 2 groups in a high lvl roulette dungeon. If a tank has issues holding hate and it's only one group I will suggest taking multiple groups bc it's easier to hold hate on multiple groups. If the tank doesn't I'll pull an extra group, ussually the healer will heal me and let the tank drop. If the healer let's me die. I eat the lockout and do leves. I'm not going to spend 30min in a dungeons that takes 10, for no reason at all.

The tank does not set the pace the party does. You have 4 people in their and to be so egotistical as to say only the tank matters is very selfish. I enjoy tanking but every tank can handle it. Good dps are not always common and a bad tank is more rare then a bad dps. I would rather know the dps won't take forever and have a decent tank, then have a good tank with bad dps.

That doesn't make any sense. You could do the same thing you are doing with big groups to hold threat in small groups. How is it easier? If anything, it's much harder as some dps start single targeting random mobs in the big group.

You are trying to rationalize your terrible behavior and you arent making any sense while doing so...

As a tank, you're the one who sets the run speed in regular dungeons. Don't like to speedrun? Just pull small packs. DPS trying to pull more packs? Let them die, unless thet can actually manage to tank them.

Always say you're new to the content. That way no one can really blame you if you mess up and no one told you what to do.

I don't think there's a whole lot of actual speedrunning happening in low-level dungeons, so you could go on and give healing a try as well.
