By the time zilart came out a year-ish after release FFXI was great.
and then COP took it to a whole new level.

But FFXI relied on NA PC release for a huge population boost and then ps2 and xbox releases for huge boosts.

This game has ONE more chance. ps3 release. And PS3 has lost a lot of ppl cuz of the whole network failure thing and now forcing ppl to say they wont sue.

Further FFXI had fresh reviews which were -very- positive on NA release. This game will -never- get fresh reviews. Its 5.0ish average will haunt it for years, especially on the meta-review sites that average out all the reviews.
the xiv now, got more players than the xi then (one year old) had. The game got about double he population afterr the last patch. It might even double again after the next one. No matter where you go you always will see people, you can always join a random party. If your in uldah, not 10 minutes goes without someone shouting for grind party.

if you say this is because its f2p then something must be wrong with your head. People dont play a game BECAUSE its f2p.

Yeah sure, new and unique. Always fun to see a troll get trolled around xD
no mmorpg out there has the option to play part of it like a single player rpg really. So it would be unique. I'm not arguing to make the entire game single player. I'm arguing for a single option to level 1 job via an in-depth single player story with instanced zones.

How can you argue thats a bad thing? In marketing terms it's called multi-branding. Every corporation does it. Coke has multiple drinks? why? because diff people like diff drinks. So why shouldn't a MMO have a different option that attracts a totally different set of people.

Are you saying if they released a single player FFXIV mode no one would buy the game even though theres 100,000s of people who buy every new single player ff?

Not everyone has time for mmo grinding. So creating a way to level up in a -fun- manner would attract all those people. They could play at their own pace. This would increase the general population, increase profits, allow SE to hire more ppl and produce content faster, and make FFXIV better for everyone.

why wouldn't se charge for the game if they know that no one would quit? They would actually be legally obligated too since they are a corporation and a corporations job is to make a profit for its shareholders....

If there isnt people shouting for party/doing raid/chatting in LS then I considered this game is fail. But I think it is not atm, at least in Wutai. Let SE who worry on getting new player, while we enjoying our time in Eorzea...with people that playing.

    SE is a corporation
a Corporation MUST seek profits under the law since they are responsible to shareholders
If a product is operating at a loss it is a failure for the time being
If that product can be turned around and become profitable it is a success

This game has run a year without profit. that means profits will have to make up for paying 100+ employees for a year or more. Until that happens the game is a failure because it has failed to turn a profit which is the sole goal of creating a product.

"Not everyone has time for mmo grinding"

if you did the grinding without the mmo part it would be unbalanced. Meaning you would level at same pace as solo grinding is now, plus the time of running around for solo quests.

It would take more time than mmo grinding.

"no mmorpg out there has the option to play part of it like a single player rpg really. "
    "Every corporation does it."

there is a reason. Because to balance that out they would have to make multiplayer soloable.

try wow, you can play the whole game solo-able. fuuuuuuuun right? ^^

    innovate your ass instead.

nothing in this thread is about opinion.

Its a marketing fact that if you can sell a product to more than one "target market" you make more money.
If coke can sell coca cola, and then no-name cola, they make a lot more money than if they just sold coke.

Similarly if this game appealed to TWO different groups of players (MMO players and normal RPG players) It would make significantly more profit.

It is also a fact that most of the game is already single player suggesting that the code to make a single-player part of the game is already available.

Thus SE has a low-cost way of possibly doubling the games population and increating their profits.

this "single player" part would not effect MMO players very much so saying "we dont like single player stuff" is irrelevant.

So the argument only centers around whether or not SE could turn a profit by doing it.

This game is suffer from failed lauch. Do the shareholder want same mistake happen again? SE didnt charge player as an apology and as chance to get beta-tester for their upcoming PS3 release. Is it that hard to understand?

"allow SE to hire more ppl"

have you ever coded anything in your life?

    more people != quality
more people = more memory leak
    more people = more discussion
more people = more time used on not programming.

also, if they wanted money, they wpould make it p2p, but they get LOTS of money from their other games at the same time. People also atually "donate" by buying more ff titles just for this game to grow. They dont need money, they need time.
And if you dont have time for that, well, thats your own problem.

Making a singleplayer part would take about 2 years, are you ready to wait for that? no? didnt think do.
