I'm sorry but if this game is "doing fine as an MMO" then SE would be charging people for it to make a profit.

This game is regarded as one of the biggest failures of an MMO
This game -still- isn't making profit in -any- way
This game has -nothing- unique and nothing unique planned for the future
Thus: This game is not competitive with other MMOs.

This game is simply a glorified pretty grind fest. There is no engaging story (trust me, i've done every sidequest, over half the class-quests, the entire mission, and written out a lore guide for nearly all the open-world lore in the game and the game has less substance than most free MMOs. I was a Gamesage on hello kitty online and it honestly had more lore than this game.... which is sad), the dungeons are bland when you compare them to the instances coming out in SW: TOR which have choices that change the instance as well as voices. Leveling is literally just clicking mobs with no strategy.

Currently the new patch might be late.
The patch after that with jobs will prob not be till december.
And it will prob take 2-4 months or longer to balance out the jobs (since it took a year just to balance them into the game)

So how is this game doing good?

Not to sound like a defender, but they are pretty much reworking everything from scratch while we're still playing.

even if they made the game perfect, relaunching a dead game which has 5.0 average reviews on almost every site is near impossible. People interested in it will google it and the old reviews will come up first. And meta reviews will be low, etc.

The only way for the game to ever succeed is either a HUGE marketing campaign which costs millions, or bringing something totally unique and new that no other MMO has.

"We will bring you something so new and unique you never have heard of it before! From the times of mmorpg, we take away the mmo part. We give you a completely new genre! We call it: RPG!"

Yeah sure, new and unique. Always fun to see a troll get trolled around xD

no mmorpg out there has the option to play part of it like a single player rpg really. So it would be unique. I'm not arguing to make the entire game single player. I'm arguing for a single option to level 1 job via an in-depth single player story with instanced zones.

How can you argue thats a bad thing? In marketing terms it's called multi-branding. Every corporation does it. Coke has multiple drinks? why? because diff people like diff drinks. So why shouldn't a MMO have a different option that attracts a totally different set of people.

Are you saying if they released a single player FFXIV mode no one would buy the game even though theres 100,000s of people who buy every new single player ff?

Not everyone has time for mmo grinding. So creating a way to level up in a -fun- manner would attract all those people. They could play at their own pace. This would increase the general population, increase profits, allow SE to hire more ppl and produce content faster, and make FFXIV better for everyone.

If you think that why don't you go right now log in delete your account then never come back to the forums? The ps3 is there 2# chance at making a 7.0 - 9 score. Btw most of the score for games are pay by the company look at IGN most of there score for good games are 5 and for bad games are 7.0+ lol so if people really follow scores then they should not play games then. How many time did i went to see a movie and people give it a bad score? and it was great? and big % thought that also?

Even if FFXIV fails to bring wow players who the hell cares? the game is final fantasy only final fantasy players going to play this to it dies anyways so if it have 1-2 or 4mil players it would be doing 100x better then FFXI did in 5years.

People need to stop looking at dam scores and stars to make up there minds if they should play a game or not.

You took up xi earlier ...

Now im gonna tell you a truth, so scary that you're gonna pee your pants!

Xi started out much worse than ffxiv.

The reason xi survived was that people tried giving it a chance, for two years!

Meaning that if the game attracts payable customers in less than a year from now, it will have done better than xi.

About 50/50 would pay as of right now it seems. Those who say they wont play normally got no characters over lvl 10.

Would you pay if it became p2p now?

im lower level than you, but most likely, ive played more, cause i find it fun just running around and dfoing random shit. Would you pay if it became p2p?

    no it did not
and also there was almost no competition at the time so even though ffxi had a rocky start there was no other alternatives.
By the time zilart came out a year-ish after release FFXI was great.
and then COP took it to a whole new level.

But FFXI relied on NA PC release for a huge population boost and then ps2 and xbox releases for huge boosts.

This game has ONE more chance. ps3 release. And PS3 has lost a lot of ppl cuz of the whole network failure thing and now forcing ppl to say they wont sue.

Further FFXI had fresh reviews which were -very- positive on NA release. This game will -never- get fresh reviews. Its 5.0ish average will haunt it for years, especially on the meta-review sites that average out all the reviews.

and no offence but i seriously doubt you've played more. I was the only real person to release as solo guide at release and after 1.18 so i've literally killed every mob in the game. I've pretty well experianced everything in this game.

    And no i probably wouldn't pay .

the xiv now, got more players than the xi then (one year old) had. The game got about double he population afterr the last patch. It might even double again after the next one. No matter where you go you always will see people, you can always join a random party. If your in uldah, not 10 minutes goes without someone shouting for grind party.

if you say this is because its f2p then something must be wrong with your head. People dont play a game BECAUSE its f2p.

why wouldn't se charge for the game if they know that no one would quit? They would actually be legally obligated too since they are a corporation and a corporations job is to make a profit for its shareholders....
