Current absolute highest DPS in the game?

As far as youtube videos of parses goes, drg is top atm with ~1200, mnk and nin are about the same with ~1150, blm is in the ~1100 department together with smn. Though note that these are dummy parses with the jobs parsing solo, every job will parse higher with a nin in the party (trick attack), nin will put out considerably higher numbers with a war doing slashing debuff for them and blm/smn will parse higher with foes. Brd and mch are also definitely viable dps classes and will shine in high movement fights.

In real content I think smn is the overall 'best' dps class right now, since they can maintain very high single target dps while moving/doing mechanics, they have good burst in HW and on top of that are practically kings of aoe now.

Thats not a DUMMY fight. Thats a fight with two targets with large amounts of HP, and adds to bane/painflare off of. So yes SMN will do well in that fight, but thats not a single target dummy fight like i was talking about.

Well if you watch this video. Bard is doing similar dps than monk and boost casters dps greatly with foe + battlevoice so I would say Bard increase more raid dps than everybody else. Drg is good too also because disembowel is pretty god like buff for bards and mch. Ninja is good too if you run without warrior and give slash buff to pld and drk. It is still pretty hard compare dps since current content is kinda joke. We should wait alex hard/savage until compare anything.

Well, like others have said, it depends on the fight.

Although, since you asked for the highest DPS, the answer is simple, DRG...

In different fights, the DPS will vary between the jobs, but on a single target, the DPS can never be higher than a DRG in a perfect scenario.

Alex(normal) is pretty forgiving for melee DPS, so they should be on top, but we don't know how the mechanics will work exactly in Alex(Savage), where it really matters.

It should be mentioned though, that DRG's new rotation that gives them that high DPS, doesn't work in many cases, and you have to hold on to skills to not lose even more DPS. MNK on the other side, doesn't use much of their new abilities unless there are some mechanics to dodge etc, and NIN just doesn't get as affected by mechanics as MNK and DRG. So unless you know you have 100% up-time on a boss (even Alex F4 can screw a DRG with getting sucked away), DRG lose some of that DPS advantage, MNK will gain some relative DPS, and NIN just adapts to some fights better and keeps much of their DPS. Overall, all melee are pretty close in real fights and striking dummies never tells the whole story.

In very specific fights where melee gets screwed while ranged can stand still (and I mean really still) for a long periods of time, BLM is the winner, but usually in raids(not accounting for AoE), melee DPS jobs are on top, so if you're interesting in highest DPS, look at melee... At least if they keep the trend they've had now with FCoB and Alex(assuming savage doesn't change it completely).

If the point is to find out which class has top DPS so they can play the top DPS class, doesn't that automatically prevent it from being pointless?
