Able to whisper using trial account.

We have a new green leaf under free trial that is able to whisper. I thought you couldn't due to gil spamming.

Can anyone explain?

You can't send friend request, they don't want to remove whispers because then they would be entering the territory of making things difficult on new players who want to play legit.

Imagine this scenario, you started playing, and you're having fun, you see a player and they help you out, you try to whisper to thank them and it says "Sorry you can't whisper unless you register or hit lv 20" You know how many people would be turned off by something like that, to learn that they can't even try to be social in an MMO til they hit a requirement?

Removing the ability to friend is ok because that just limits the ability of new players befriending old players but not vice versa. However it does create an issues with new players befriending one another I believe so that in itself does upon up a bothersome can of worms because while they can talk to each other via tell, they have to wait a set amount of time before they can add one another to a friend list.

Pretty sure you can't send whispers /tells to someone under a free trial account unless you /tell them first, is what it is.

30 day paid trials don't have that limitation.

No, there was a developer post. trial accounts cannot whisper.

You need to be like Lv.30 + to be able to post on the forums anway IIRC

Sprouts are just people with less than a certain amount of playtime, it has nothing to do with being a paid account. For example, my alt on the Coeurl server still has a sprout and I've been playing for over a year and a half, but on that character I've hardly played at all. I'm certainly a paid account.

This. There is no way to tell if someone is on a trail account unless you know they can't invite you to a party or whisper you.
