Getting others to play on your server

I am a relatively new player and my husband is interested in playing with me, however Exodus is currently restricted and not allowing new characters to be created.

This is a make or break situation for him. If he cannot play on my server then he won't play. I don't blame him one bit. I wanna do stuff with him in game as we did in WoW for so many years. In fact WoW was the first game we ever played together and I'd like to continue that in FF14.

Anyway, my question is... is there any way I can bypass that restriction? How can I get a new player to play on my server so we can do stuff together?

Well, the restriction is calculated pretty simply, based just on the number of players currently logged in at the moment. If lots of people are already logged in on Exodus, then character creations on it will be restricted until that number drops down below some threshold. This means that any time the number of players is a bit lower than usual (or at least lower than it was last time he tried and was blocked) his chances of getting in are better. So just trying at typically low-traffic times (like very early in the morning on weekdays) usually works.

Other options would be for both you and your husband to create new characters on another server that's not as crowded and play together there, or (if you're willing to spend a bit of money on it) for him to create a character on another world and then transfer either his character to Exodus or yours to whichever world he's on.

(World transfers don't officially bypass the character creation restrictions, but since it's SE's software rather than the player who keeps checking for when the world opens up, it lets you avoid the frustrating "Is it open yet? Is it open yet? Is it open yet?" checking. That makes it effectively seem as though it bypasses those restrictions, and so you can get into any world you want if you pay for the character transfer.)

Personally, I'd recommend the "both of you play on a less crowded server" approach. It's the solution that those character creation restrictions is intended to encourage — to spread out the traffic load, getting more people off of the highest populated servers and onto lower populated ones. How viable that option is will, however, depend a lot on how many other friends you've made on Exodus whom you wouldn't want to leave behind.

All you can do is try to make the character while the restriction is lifted.

The restriction is determined real time by how many online players there are on that world at any given moment. If there are too many players, the restriction is activated, and vice versa.

Your best chance is to design his character now using a free trial and save the character design (the character creation system allows saving and loading of character designs). Then, decide upon a name and a deity for the character. Wake up in the early morning EST/EDT hours, something like 3 AM, and try to create the character. Early mornings is when the restriction is most likely to be lifted. If it is lifted, quickly create the character by loading the design and typing in the name he decided, choose the deity he decided, and create the character. Emphasis on quickly, as the restriction could again activate before you finish. Once it's done, you can go back to bed until a reasonable hour. :P

You can attempt to use a Free Trial for all of this.

Exodus is one of the more populated NA worlds, last I checked, so even in the early mornings you may not get the chance. To make your chances even worse, the expansion is still new so many are often logged in throughout all hours of the day due to a resurgence of players. You may not get into the server anytime soon. Or you might get lucky and get in on the first attempt.

I wish you luck circumventing this restriction system; the most retarded decision that SE ever made.
