    Shaken confidence after expansion

Before heavensward i felt like i had a good grip and feel for the couple of classes i main regularly but with all the new skills that have been added ive never felt so doubtful in my ability to do dungeons and other content successfully. Ive read guides and practiced rotations in dungeons and on dummies but I feel like i just cant get a comfortable grip on the new skills and rotations. Ive even started leveling some other classes in hopes that maybe their play style will match me better but im concerned the same thing will happen on those as well. Maybe im just trying too hard and overthinking everything im doing but does anyone else feel like their confidence has been shaken a bit since the update?

No. In fact the new abilities restored my interest in the game, as I had become kind of bored with the game.

Now that the classes all have received a somewhat revamped rotation, and the new jobs, I'm quite enjoying myself.

I'm VERY happy they added the new abilities and I very much so enjoy the complexity it adds

I've only really levelled my main character(bard) so far but I really like the new skills she got. You need to keep an eye on your DoTs and cooldowns a little more carefully than before but it's pretty straightforward and I really enjoy it. I even love that preorder esuna song we got. I get to use it on my healer friend every time we run the Fractum Continuum for tomes since no-one ever stuns or silences chimera's Voice of the Dragon after I silence Voice of the Ram, so I feel a little more useful! I must have saved her a total of like... six seconds of her time by now!

The new abilities take some getting used to but I find most for my paladin helpful. Sometimes I forget 1 or 2 moves but that's usually because I've zoned back into my normal rotation from prior to 50. Give it time, you'll get used to it.

Practice. It's still to early to say that you've mastered using your class with the new skills.

I assume atleast one of the jobs you usually do is Dragoon based on the little profile on the left, and I gotta say I'm lovin it so far. It DOES take some getting used to, after all your rotations change a bit! That said it isn't too bad once you get used to it. Practice on a dummy or a weak mob in one of the new areas for a bit maybe so you can start gettin a feel for it, and if all else fails and you can't keep it up in a dungeon switch to the old way for a bit till you get out and can try practicin again.

The higher skill speed from the end game gear helps quite a bit in keeping your rotation going and DoTs/HT up as well.

Since the OP is a DRG:

DRG was arguably one of the more simplistic of the dps jobs prior to 3.0 and those players seeking a relatively relaxed playstyle seemed to gravitate to it (that and BRD). The new skills have made DRGs just as complex as the other jobs now though so those players have lost their easy rotation. The only choice really is to keep practicing and learn how and when to use the new skills. Everyone has to do it, regardless of job, there's just a steeper learning curve for DRGs due to their previous simplicity.

I do agree with you OP but things are finally improving for my main job which was Bard. My confidence was stomped on since the patch began thanks in part to the heavy nerfs bard experienced. I swapped to DRG after I hit 54 Bard for a break and got that to 60 instead. Afterwards, I forced myself to go back and finish bard. It was a grueling road and while Im comfortable with bards abilities the fact they were so heavily gimped made it difficult to get or stay in group content.

Now thanks to the whole escapade surrounding bard I am a week behind my FC on gearing up and can not yet access Alexander. Though I will likely be able to do so by the end of the week. It is disheartening seeing and listening to my FC enjoy the new content, while I muddle through dungeon wait times trying to get the remaining tomes I need to gear up and hit the ilvl.

Good luck though, in your case, practice will eventually make perfect and it will become easier for you to get a handle on things ^_^b hang in there!

The biggest problem for me was that I had to rearrange my keybinds significantly to put the new abilities in the places where they were going to be needed. My epiphany was in binding the 3rd macro set over to the ALT key, and then my pet hotbar over to my shift key, giving me control over 36-48 actions at any time. The third row being keyboard accessible really freed up space for the new toys and allowed me to optimize.

Unfortunately, even my sexy new optimized 3-hotbar bard layout won't stop me from mashing Wind Bite constantly by accident because that's where Heavy Shot was until a week ago >_>

Perhaps you'll get used to them in time? I sort of agree, though - as a DRG my rotation is already pretty long so adding the new abilities to my rotation feels very difficult on movement intensive fights. I'm sort of hoping that certain abilities will merge into one another for the next expansion otherwise there may be way too much to juggle.
