No. It's your choice to level alts instead of just using the armory system.

Considering that having multiple characters on one world is a privilege you have to pay extra for (if you're paying monthly), it really is strange that the game's design is so hostile to alts.

Account-wide pets/mounts would be nice

I'm an altaholic too and while I could see some of the benefits of allowing Ishgard to be unlocked, say server-wide, my non-50 alts really have no business being in Ishgard. They'd be as useless as Tataru. They'd be homess (no inn access yet), unable to find any meaningful work (no quest access), and about the ONLY thing they could do would be to unlock the new jobs there. For which, you actually do still need a level 50.

The MSQ once you hit 50 can be ground out in a weekend if you know what you're doing, so to be honest I'm not sure I see the benefit of it unless they lower the requirements for the new jobs to 30 - which they won't.

That's a really good point, there might not be much for them to do. I certainly wouldn't expect to be able to take a character lower than level 50 there, (I would love to take my level 50 gatherer there though, and she hasn't seen combat since like, level 25, but that's another issue that the crafters have already lamented elsewhere). And yeah, there is no way they will lower the job requirements as you said. I wonder if you have to complete 2.55 to get access to the new quests for the old jobs or if it's dependent on level.
